2026 Modeling Goals

I believe many say no more models until I’ve finished some, and then… Good luck!

The Miniart P-47, especially in ‘Advanced’ form, is amazing, but what a challenge! Good luck

Firstly to complete my last 2025 build, an Academy 1/72 F4U-1 (Modelist boxing). Then to start 24 kits, and complete at least 20. As they’re mostly 1/72 this isn’t as big a task as it might seem. However, a secondary goal is to build the V-bomber triumvirate from Airfix, and this will be more involved, as the kits aren’t the best, nor is the size condusive to ease of build. I might fail, but a target is a target to aim for.

Yes it would be,that’s why I ordered the basic version :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Lol, you are a funny man! And it turns out, prescient. Went to a rare/vintage model store in palm springs today and found a couple of out of production kits that I couldn’t live without. Tamya P-38 and Academy MH-53E and they were significantly below ebay pricing.

Now I have to make room!

Love this plan, looking forward to seeing your work

Osher, what schemes did you have in mind for the V-Bombers? I also have those kits and have yet to decide what I want to do with them.

I was toying with the idea to build each one at separate points in their service lives, with the Valiant as the silver prototype, the Victor in anti-flash white with the Blue Steel missile, and the Vulcan as a Falklands War aircraft with conventional bombs or as a Black Buck aircraft.

I also photographed a Vulcan that was at the open house at Hickam AFB circa 1982, and fortunately got the fin with the squadron emblem and the aircraft serial number. I also have an aftermarket decal sheet with all Vulcan squadron emblems. Decisions, decisions…

Keavdog - I have not understood the concept of group builds. I am a slow builder even when I have only a single project on the go (which is rare). The idea of competing to a deadline leaves me cold. But the idea of building the same subject for comparative reasons is interesting. Tell us more about your motivation. I am intrigued. - Paul C

I don’t think I’ve ever bought a kit to be part of a group build so it’s something I was going to build anyhow - I see a GB that interests me subject wise and look through my stash to find a kit. I enjoy seeing other folks subjects as I work on mine and sharing progress - there’s no competing in it other than trying to get the kit built by the deadline. May not be for everyone but I enjoy the camaraderie. Now secret santa group builds are fun because you purchase the model for someone in the GB. Opening that present on xmas day has become one of my favorites.

Well after a 30 odd year break from Modelling, 2026 goal is pretty simple!
Build, build and build ! can’t wait to get into it… 3 more days of work :frowning:

I want to finish more than two models in a year. We moved and I now have a dedicated work area so I should be more efficient when building (once the new area is finished).

My main goal for 2026 is to finished what I’ve started. Right now I’m at seven projects on the bench. Sometimes I get a little overwhelmed by all the builds in progress.

@RealG Not sure but I’d like all 3 to be in the same scheme, so, white I guess in the only choice, and, because I want everyone to see every error I make! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I generally have 2-3 works in progress, generally characterised as:

  • Main project
  • Fun project
  • Side project

The main project might stall due to waiting on additional tools or materials on order. The fun project is simply there as an unrelated and completely different project, intended to fill in those gaps until the main project can be resumed. I usually model armour, but the Bandai Star Wars kits have been excellent little deviations to mix it up.

The main project might also stall over a confidence issue on a particular task, in which case a side project might be initiated as a targeted effort to literally and figuratively build that confidence outside of the pressures of trying something new. Rather than build a whole new kit though, I’m pretty sure most people just keep a failed project as their “mule”.

I’ve also seen these “test palettes” getting around, which you can either buy or build with spare parts. Probably a better investment to prove task competency without embarking on another build. Of course I say this as I’ve just hours ago purchased another kit to prove task competency on WWII aviation

However as to the 2026 Modelling Goals, I was able to complete 3 projects in 2025 although I could stretch that to 5 projects if I consider things I revisited for reworks/repairs, so let’s try and mirror that upper limit of success…

  • Finish my existing Main Project - Tamiya 1:48 PzKpfw V “Panther” Ausf G (Late)
  • Finish my existing Fun Project - Bandai 1:14,500 Imperial Star Destroyer
  • Start-Complete my entry in the 2026 Japanese Group Build (Airfix 1:72 A6M2b Zero)
  • Start-Complete my future Fun Project - Hasegawa 1:72 Kittyhawk Mk.I
  • Start-Complete my future Side Project - Airfix 1:76 PzKpfw V “Panther” Ausf A

I’m unlikely to finish it, but I’d like to at least start the next Main Project, either a Tamiya 1:35 Achilles Mk.IIc (M10) or Dragon 1:35 SturmPanzer “IV” Brummbar. The point of the Airfix Panther is to experiment with painting and posing crew and infantry, since the open-topped Achilles comes with a crew and Brummbar was essentially a fire support vehicle for infantry.
