Oh, that is GREAT! I don’t have one showing that angle, at least on a high-quality color shot like that. That will be of immense help.
Thanks;
Steve

Which pics this time? What haven’t you seen?
I just took pics of the two models that I pulled out for this Group Build; I hope to have them posted soon. At least by the end of the week I hope.
Let me know what you haven’t seen Wayne and if I have to, I’ll e-mail them to you.
maybe it’s me but inderneath your post just before this one there is a line and 2 icons that look like pictures that didn’t load.
Interesting. All I see under all my previous posts is a line and a tiny icon used to report my post. Everything else is blank. I haven’t any signature line, nor have I tried to set up all my Group Build Badges in any kind of acceptable image/gif, so I have no idea what you’re seeing. I apologize for that. Did you at least see my SCUDs I posted, and my Annie? What about my Tiger Models M1A2 Abrams SEP TUSK II and M-103 Heavy Tank? Let me know iof you saw them; if not, I’ll E-mail you photos so that you can see threm.
hey Duke I have seen your atomic cannon with DORA, M-103, both SCUDs, and TUSK. i tthink we are caught up.
I’ll get in on this, if you guys’ll have me. It will be my second model (after returning to the hobby after nearly 20 years), and I started it a few weeks back while I was finishing up my first so I’ve made a bit of a head start. Link to completed WIP post for my first:

Number two will be the HobbyBoss MS.406 - a very simple if attractive kit, with the rather offensively toy-ish looking box art that their 72nd aircraft kits seem to all have.
Putting myself into decal purgatory again, I’ll be doing it up as MS318, one of the Morane -Saulniers that France donated to Finland in early 1940, before they knew they were going to need them so badly. The Finns slapped their own insignia right over the French camoflage and immedeiately put them to good use.

One question, this being my first group build: if I finish this one and/or start another 1/72 kit, can it also be added? Or do I have to declare them all before beginning?
[H]
Suomi39 welcome. over here in the OTS arena we are pretty loosey goosey on rules. you can finish this, add another, change your mind, crossover, build something big or small. some of us built multiples in 2015 and 2014. i thiuk Taxtp has the record with 5 though ModelCrazy had the largest with 4 in a RR diorama.

Duke, i am seeing the same as wayne. The two little black squares with a white cross which usually shows a pic has not loaded.
There’s a separation line there, so I suspect that the two images that aren’t showing are in Duke’s signature area rather than part of an actual post.
Excellent. Good to know. Now to get my boxes loaded for this. I chose my first models for this now.
Suomi, welcome. I’ll be looking forward to seeing this done. It’s interesting that they have British markings on a French aircraft. I never knew the British acquired any of those.
Thanks Phil. If they are underneath the seperation line they are signature pics or something. I have no idea anymore what would be there as it’s been forever since I’ve seen them. I don’t even get the little black squares with a white cross when I look at my own posts!
Okay, time to go get those pics loaded for this.
Got my WIP posted over in the Aircraft section so I’ll post a link to it and a few highlights here in this thread, if that’s okay. As I said I began this one in January, doing a little here and there as I was waiting for glue or paint to dry on my Fokker D.XXI.

In the box - interesting packaging.
Cockpit part (yes, this is all one part) with a very small amount of masking tape detail and my first attempt at a grim wash. Protip: use a clearcoat between Tamiya flat acrylics and a water-based wash unless you like redoing work. [I]
Found this excellent photo of the undercarriage and wanted to add a little detail to the plain kit parts.
Assembled, filled/sanded, preshaded, and a coat of French grey on the bottom. (For colors, since I am using Tamiya acrylics, I looked up the instruction booklet from the Tamiya Dewoitine D.520, and grabbed the color mixes from there.)
And last night I got on the camo scheme. I airbrushed freehand but now I’m not sure I like the color edges being that soft. Would love some opinions on that. I know the colors are rather stark too but weathering should tone them down.
Great looking thus far Suomi…yes, you are right about the soft demarkations between colours. I am reluctant to freehand cam in 1/72. I tried it a few times and I came to the same conclusion as you about it looking soft.
If I may proffer a suggested technique: I like to use the diagram of the multiple views from the instruction sheet, blow them up on a photocopier to the actual size of the physical 1/72 plane, then cut out the cam patterns and apply them as masks to the plane. I leave about 1mm between the paper and the plane and it leaves a nice edge to the lines…not crisp, but, not soft either.
Quite the packaging they are doing with Hobby Boss now, eh? Is that a new kit from this or last year?
suomi, really nice job there. For myself, i like result you have got on the scheme. I have starte free handing thebcamo myself, it is tricky, but i think it can be done.
Thanks for the input. It actually looks better in the pictures than in person, believe it or not… I just can’t decide whether or not to re-do the whole thing. I wonder if I can just touch up the edges somehow. Some thinking to do.
Thanks for the tip on the masking. I’ve tried something similar on a scrap model and it looked so nice the model got upgraded from scrap status. [8-|]
I bought the HB MS406 kit on Amazon a couple months ago, so I assume it’s a pretty new boxing. Funny packaging indeed. I have their PE-2 as well and it’s not like that at all – loose fuselage parts and bagged sprues in the box.
Thanks for the reply! It sure saves time on masking. I hate masking.
I have never been able to get the knack of a soft edge useing a maks. i ended up haveing to go ove rit anyway, so i have just ditched the mask.
Great job Suomi. I agree with the others; the demarcation lines are too soft for something in this scale. I usually mask with Silly Putty and I’m able to get a nice smooth and sharp line. The trick is to keep the Silly Putty relatively thin.
Okay, here’s the pic of the boxes showing the models I’m going to submit for this. I’m doing the SS-100 Gigant and the Meilerwagen to transport m V-2 rocket:
I figured: I need one for the other; and I have a V-2 already built that needs to be transported so I’d build both.
It was a good start. I did the chassis on the SS-100 Gigant first:
Wow, what a great fit! Moving on I added some more details and the fenders on this:
I finished that part up with a few more parts on top:
Later I started on a part of the cab. I assembled the interior and the forward engine cover. I stopped there so I could paint the interior before completing the assembly of the cab:
That was fun! After that I set everything aside and went to work on the Meilerwagen. I started, of course, with the wheel assemblies:
I realized later that those two single wheels were supposed to be double wheels. Easy fix taken care of later. Next I assembled the lower part of the trailer and added the wheel assemblies:
After that, I only had to assemble the rocket cradle and add it to the trailer:
Now I just have a bunch of tiny fiddly bits to add to that and it’ll be done and ready for paint. That was quick! I’m looking forward to seeing this carrying my V-2 Rocket!
Okay, that’s all I have for now. I have a lot to do next week so I don’t know how much I’ll be able to get done beyond this. Until then, comments are welcome; thanks for looking in.
Some nice work there Duke. I like the look of that SS-100. I have that myself and was going to use it on my Arado until i got the Kora kit.
DUKE cool build
SUOMI39 i think the camo looks good too. i died a freehand camo on an Airfix ww1 tank, 3 color. kinda rough but 4 different color oil filters and a pin wash plus a small base gave it a first at a regional. good thiong it was a tank though. the actual painting was a tad iffy
Duke – very cool vehicle build. Forgive the beginner question, but how do you plan to paint all those components now that they’re assembled? Or is it different with vehicles? I guess I’ll learn how if I follow along. [8-|]
As for the Morane-Saulnier, I couldn’t take it – had to redo it. Just did the edges but with the masking (I use sticky mounting putty, I think it’s the same as “blue tack”), it cost me one evening of work but I much prefer the camo now. Also was able to do a little chipping.
Yeah, that looks much better.
