This a 1/72 Fujimi Mig-21 MF I am doing for the Foreign Mig Group Build. I finally made some noticeable progress.
And then there was a beginning. All the pieces out of the box.

The cockpit. I mixed the color and it came out too green. It should be more blue.

The plans call for 5g of weight in the nose. I don’t know what these little BBs weigh, but I put 8 of them in there. That ought to do it.

Size comparison.

2-26-05 It is actually starting to look like an airplane. There are 8 external vents/airscoops at various locations on the fuselage. They were molded solid and I drilled them out with a .013" bit, (photo on right)

2-27-05 @ 21:45 CST I have started a second Mig-21 for the “Foreign Mig” Group Build. It is the ancient Hasegawa 1/72 Mig-21 Fishbed C. The cockpit is practically non-existant and I didn’t want to spend a bunch of money on AM stuff, so I just left it stock and concentrated on the outside of the plane. I did the basic assembly, filled a couple of minor gaps, put a coat of primer on it and then sprayed it with a rattle can from Testors called “Chrome”. It is not quite as bright as the chrome plated parts in car/truck models, but it sure is shiny. I bought the paint originally to use on my rebuild of the F-105B Thunderbird I built about 20 years ago.
When I first sprayed it on, it was so thick it looked like a silver blanket. I thought that I had ruined the model. I let it dry for a couple of hours and the stuff dried out and shrank down to where it looks really nice. All the panel lines (and imperfections) show right through. It is a very slick finish that should be OK to put decals on without a gloss coat of some kind. I plan to clear coat it with either flat or semi-gloss over the decals.
My first Mig for this GB is the Mig-21 MF Fishbed J and it has been primered and waiting to start the finish colors. See photo 3
