1975 Mack/Swab Heavy Rescue Fire Truck

Hey Guys,
Well, after 30 years of dreaming, planning, gathering, and procrastinating, I have FINALLY started this project! This was the first heavy rescue that I ever rode on, and my favorite piece of fire apparatus. Last I heard, it is still in service outside of Philadelphia. I am awaiting comfirmation of same, so that I can get a few measurements, and photos of items that I never took all those years ago. Anyway, on to the pictures:

The cab and wheels are the old MTFA castings. While very rough, I am going to try and make them useable. The frame is a modified ALF Ladder Chief, cut, and re-inforced with brass strip.

Everything is just propped up at the moment for the photo. I have learned to complete the chassis first(finally) then will work on fabricating the body . The drawing is one that I made almost 30 years ago. Used to spend a lot of time at the firehouse waiting for that “Big Job” to come in…

Let me know what you think…

WoW!!! Cool project!!! I’m always interested on follow posts about fire apparatus, since I played a lot when I was kid in the fire deparment in my town…

Go for it. I hope it meets your fun requirements. Looks great. Can’t wait to see it finished.

That’s gonna be awsome!! I currently work on an ambulance for a fire department so it’s great to see someone doing fire apparatus. Wish there were more out there. Keep up the good work.
