1974 Porsche Carrera 3.0 RSR

Wow, It’s really taking shape. The stacks and headers look great. Spark plug wires will really dress it up. Are you going to try some fuel lines too?

Thanks, Peter. Yes, I installed the fuel lines yesterday that go to each injector. you will see them in the next wips I post. After that I just need to install a linkage that controls the injectors and I will be through with the engine, and I can paint it and the install the spark plug wires. Then on to the body. Looking forward to installing the whale tail wing on the back of the trunk which is actually the hood on this car.

Lots of custom fabrications on this one. This kit doesn’t come with a whale tale. Are you fabricating that as well? Fun to watch your progress. Thanks for posting the WIP.

I’m looking forward to the next set of photos.

I’m curious—how much time are you spending on each one of these little stages? Reading through what you’re doing with the fuel lines, injector linkage and everything else, it sounds like each step could easily represent several hours of work.

I’m starting to appreciate just how much time is going into that engine before you ever get to the rest of the car.

Yes, Peter I will have to fab that as well. I’m hoping its not going to be that much trouble.

Sam, it seems to be taking about 3 or 4 hours for each addition to the engine.

Here are some more photos showing the fuel lines going to the injectors.

Three or four hours for each addition sounds about like what I was imagining.

I’m always amazed at how much time some of these little modeling jobs actually take. I’ll sit down thinking I’m going to work on one small thing, look up, and somehow three hours have disappeared. :joy:

So when I look at everything you’re fabricating and adding to this engine, I can definitely understand where the time is going. What impresses me is the patience and persistence to keep doing it, piece after piece.

These closer photos really help too. I’m looking forward to seeing what all of this looks like once you get everything built and painted.

Thanks Sam. Won’t be long now before I’m through building and can start painting. In fact, the injector actuators have all been built. I just need to add them to the injectors and then connect them all to the rod that opens and closes them together.

That sounds great I look forward to seeing it.

The engine is finally finished and ready for paint. Then on to the body.

Must feel good to finally have all that work behind you and be moving on to the painting stage.

I’m looking forward to seeing how it all comes together once you’ve got some paint on it, especially compared with your reference photos.

Very nice work. It’s really going to pop once you get to painting.

Thanks Sam and Keav. My sink decided to clog up so I have been spending all afternoon working on it. Hopefully tomorrow I can get back on the model.

I completely understand. I haven’t been able to touch a model today either. Sometimes real life just gets in the way.

Hopefully you’ve got the sink completely fixed and unclogged now. There’s nothing worse than a clogged sink… except maybe a clogged toilet. :joy:

sink fixed. Back to the model. Hoping to have some new wips this afternoon.

Suddenly I decided to take down a retractable patio cover over my deck, and I had kept it up many years which you are not supposed to do, so I had to basically take over 100 bolts out of it with an allen wrench to get it to come down. It took me till 2 o’clock in the afternoon and I was completely out of energy to work on the model so hopefully today I can work on the model and post some wips

Finally, have some more wips to post. The first two are the beginnings of the whale tail spoiler and the rest I finally have added some color to the engine which is not complete yet.

Now that you’ve got some paint on the engine, all that scratch-built detail really comes alive. I can finally see how all those individual pieces work together, and it looks very convincing. Nice work!

The engine is looking great! The gold really makes it pop. Like the black velocity stacks. The whale tail is going to be wild. Great work so far.
