This is my 1969 Dodge Dart GTS 340. It is painted with 3 coats of Tamiya TS-54 Light Metallic blue with 3 coats of Tamiya TS-13 Gloss Clear and a white and black interior. MAD resin TorqueFlite auto transmission, wired 340 CI 4-Bbl. engine for the AMT '71 Duster 340, Kelsey-Hayes “Recall” mags, “Tuff” steering wheel from the Monogram '71 Hemi 'Cuda, piano wire antenna, and hand lettered tires.
Just beautiful, Mike. There’s a lot to compliment you on, but I think the overall attention to detail and the killer engine compartment really stand out!
Man that looks great! Color is beautiful. Is that the Revell kit? How was the flash/build? I’ve got the 68 Hemi on my wish list. I was so close to buying a sublime green (repaint) Dart with a 340, Torqueflite and 8 3/4" rear. 7K and the guy backed out last minute. I will have my dart some day.
Thank you Mike, John, and Greg! I’m not done with this just yet. The more I look at the engine, the more I hate it! The air cleaner is a mess and I had issues with laying down the decal. I think I’ll strip it and start over with a repaint and a new decal if I can find one. Or, I’ll find an image on the internet and make my own decal.
Very Nice Job. After reading your last post, I looked again at the engine and Now I see what you are talking about and well heck, you got a point. Ya just got to get that air cleaner up to the level of the rest of the car. But I really like the rest of the job.[Y]
Looks great Mike! I love the details under the hood and the paint looks amazing.
My first car was a 1970 Dodge Dart ‘Swinger’, 2 door hardtop, lt. green on dark green interior, 318 V8 automatic. Exterior was white vinyl top over semi dark green. Even with a 318 she was a screamer on peel outs. I managed to destroy 3 sets of motor mounts from doing that. I loved that coupe!
The 318 was no match for the 340, I know that from experience . I had an encounter one night with a 340 Demon as I was driving home from my part time job one evening. When we peeled out all I saw were two lit afterburners from his dual pipes as that Demon pulled in front of me fast as hell. After a few blocks I gave up and quietly turned into a side street and took another route home.
Terrific model. My older brother tried to buy a ‘68 340 GTS, but none of the salesmen at the local Dodge dealer would take the order! They told him he could have a Charger with a 383, or a Dart with a 318, so my brother decided to take the 318 Dart and pocket the difference. I’ve never again seen a car dealer refuse to sell a particular car to someone with the cash for it burning a hole in his pocket.
Awesome buiild! Thanks for sharing. My first car was a 1969 Dodge Dart. I got it in 1986 when I was in high school. Blue with a white vinyl top and a 283 V8.
I’ve got the Revell kit but haven’t put it together yet. Your post was inspiring!
Mike you have done this Mopar fan proud. My one true muscle car I’ve owned was a 71 Barracuda 318. The previous owner had built the motor and put 4.10 gears in a 8.75 rearend. Was able to grab air with the front wheels. Wish I still had it
As I had promised, a picture of the new decal for the air cleaner. I cut the decal in half before it went into some water and I overlayed the bottom half over the top half and both had settle down over the air cleaner nicely. I used a silver Sharpie and drew a silver ring around the top edge of the air cleaner.
