100th Anniversary of WWI GB

[snWcm] everyone to the official 100th anniversary of WWI group build.

The rules of the group build are simple. It is open to aircraft, armor, ships and figures as long as it took part in WWI. The group build will start on July 28 2014 marking the 100th annversary of the start of WWI and end November 11th 2015 marking the 97th ending of WWI.

Of course there are a lot of subjects you can choose from. The first tanks to the large German strategic bombers.

Here are the rules

  1. Any subject as long as it took part in WWI

2.Aftermarket is OK

3.Please post pictures of your progress

4.If you want to do a crossover that’s alright.

5.Started builds are alright as long as they are only 20% finished.

If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

And here’s our badges. Please thank Mike (ruddratt) Steve (Duster) for making them [t$t]

Got you update Mike! And thanks in advance for giving the badge a try.

David

David - great, thank you for hosting. Count me in…I’ll figure out my entry later. Looking forward to it!

Good stuff, I hope to have enough skills to get to my WNW SE5 or D-7 by then, failing that I will get a cheaper (if I stuff it up) model for the GB LOL

Theuns

Great stuff!

It’s too bad the nature of the war was pretty lean in the armour aspect until the final year or so of the war. Otherwise, we’d probably double our roster.

Considering it is the 100th mark, I had thought of doing an anniversary build for each year of the war, just like that which is currently going on with the Second World War (1942 BG, 1943 GB, and presently the 1944 GB), but the selection of kits representing 1914 would be quite lean.

Another option is to have an extended group build, same start date, but ending in November 11th, 2018. Maybe have one basic badge, and then for each additional completed build, add a medal to represent this accomplishment. Too ambitious, likely, but just something to throw out there and ponder.

regards,

Jack

Jack- remember the late-great FAA Group Build? It went on for quite a number of years. Every year there was a new subject, some not even really FAA, but it meant you didn’t have to be done with the previous model.

I’m pretty sure what I will build, but I need to find it in the stash hole.

GM- Those were the days when those chums were gracing the forums! They put on a great gb!

OK, OK you heavy handed persuasion has worked!

I’ll join the GB; Of course I have no clue what I’m doing er gonna do. Cause what I know about WW I will fit in a gnats as EAR, I mean.

But most likely a wingie thing; however the new St.Chamond, Early Type is intriguing …will let you know.

Oh,and a big “Thanks David” for creating this .

I will build something too. It’s been a while since I dabbled with WW1. I’ll work it out based on interest closer to the date.

Cheers

Tony

I’d definitely like to get in on this GB. Never been involved with a GB before, and never built a WWI model!

Well, I’ll give this one a shot! I’m planning on the 1:48 Macchi M.5 Italian Flying Boat (I’m a sucker for any type of float plane) if I can find one.

Hi Dave. First thanks for hosting the GB. I think I will give it a try with a 1/48 Eduard Albatros D.V ProfiPACK… Other things going on right now, but will get started in due course. Happy to be

a part of what will be, I’m sure a successful and fun GB.

Cheers,

Ernie

List is updated! Alan, rocker228, Tony, Steve and Chuck thanks for joining!

Jack, I like the idea about running the group build for the next four years. The badge idea is really good also. Would someone who’s better at making them care to try? What does everyone else think of the idea?

Alan, Found the Macchi on ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fly-Models-1-48-Macchi-M-5-Italian-Flying-Boat-US-Naval-Pilots-48009-/181222467163

Now I have one question is anyone tempted to build this guy?

This is the Zeppelin Staaken I believe the largest bomber used during WWI. I have the Roden 1/72 and its huge! Talk about the mother of all rigging!

David

David, glad to see you are interested in possibly having this one last four years.

I believe Mike (ruddratt) offered to design one. I can look after adding the medals to the main badge, if we go that route. If I design a badge, I’d end up resurrecting Terry Thomas again:

regards,

Jack

By the end of this I could be building a WnW kit.

I think I need to seek help.

It’s been a long time since I’ve painted a figure or bust, but I did paint the busts of those four Aces that DML included in there 1/48 WW1 aircraft kits years ago.

I think I’ll paint another bust, this time it will be this one, out of my stash. He looks a bit goofy but at least he’s from 1914.

Cheers

Tony

Wow, this is shaping up nicely! Great to see so many having their first go at a WWI subject, and equally great to see just as many familiar faces too. I’ve been toying around with a badge and think I’ve found a cool image to use as the backdrop - only issue is it’s just aircraft. Perhaps one badge for each genre (just as Marc did for the Great War GB) would be appropriate.

Bish, the Wingnut Wings D.VII’s are awesome kits! [;)]
