Yep, I started this kit 10 years ago when I was in University (scratched the CP and put the fuselage together) then put it it away and when I bought my Hurricane kit in January, I pulled this one out and finished it along with the Hurricane. I enjoyed building both emensely! [:D]
I Finished last Thursday, just in time for a local model show, didn’t win any awards [:(] buts scored me a sweet CAF Mustang decal set and won the Hasegawa Ki-43I Oscar with working motor in a draw [:p](not bad for $5[tup])! I am so pumped. Anyway, I degress. Here are some pics, hope you like em’.
I had to put this one in here as I just got this nifty background, some of you may have seen my post several weeks ago of this RCAF 1sqdn BoB Hurricane.
Now for some history (one of my favourite parts of modelling!). ‘Pulverizer IV’ was the fourth and final aircraft flown by Flt/Lt Harry James Hardy of RCAF 440 sqdn (who, by the way is still surviving in British Columbia). All his aircraft were called Pulverizer and I could find only Pulverizer II and IV photographs (my photo shows no fuselage band but another reference mentioned that Pulverizer IV was photographed with the band and without it). This one he flew from Feb? to the end of the war in Europe, kind of my tribute to VE day. Thank you for all your sacrifices veterans, from the deepest depths of my heart, thank you!
For those of you into techniques, I scratched the entire cockpit except the seat (kit), I cut out the shell ejector holes on the bottom and scratched the bomb racks (then about a week later I found out Ultracast makes a really nice resin set for the bomber tiffies![banghead]). I cut out the exhaust stacks and added some others from a different 1:48 kit as the shrouds were often removed. I repositioned the flap on the back of the radiator scoop. The panel lines you see were mostly done with a soft pencil and it worked reasonably well. The decals were Arrowgraphics and I really do not recomend them, the colour was totally off and I had to paint the insignia blue over them to get it looking right. They were also old and didn’t settle down nicely after several applications of decal softener.
So sorry if I bombarded you with so much info, maybe I talk too mcuh [XX], thank you for checking it out!
WOW thats two excellent looking models you’ve got there, I myself also scratchbuilt a cockpit for Typhoon but it was in 1/72.
Thanks again for the look !!
Well, thank you for the comments Stuka_69, Necrobaron, RadMax, Daniel, Matthew, upnorth, Bryan, Mark and Rick.
Mark, the competition was against guys a lot more serious than I am. Besides I was there to meet people (I’m new to the modelling scene here in Calgary) and just show people what I’ve done. There were some excellent builds there! I had quite a few comments on my Typhoon! [:I]
Rick, most of the last 10 years this was in storage, you know how it is, get out of School, life takes over, get married, get a job, etc, etc…[sigh]
Once again thanks for the comments, it’ll be several months before I have any more builds finished, I have to start a new kit (3 in the stash)! or fix up some old ones!
Congradulations Jay, [great looking build [tup]. I had a similar experience with a Me 262 that sat in storage for almost 15 years. Same story, got put away because of school, life etc. Anyway, can’t wait to see what you do with that Oscar! [:D]
