1/87 DISNEY NAUTILUS

To me, because of the impact it had on me growing up, the only Nautilus …is the Disney Nautilus.

I purchased this kit from Nautilus Dry-docks which I believe was mastered from The incredible Scott Brodeen sculpt used in the Master Replicas display piece released many years ago.

I wanted the model to reflect the original filming miniature as best I could. The building is straight forward…however, I made a number of modifications to allow for my lighting and other effects.

The model’s upper and lower hull are going together securely via Four hidden screws and the front spear which locks everything in place.

The model was primed in flat black and given a base coat of brass. Then I did the weathering. Many layers of weathering was involved, based on pictures available of the studio miniature.

I didn’t want that horrid “blue-white” glow by using white LEDs. I used warm white LEDS. The lights are all independent of themselves.
The lighting is my own and NOT a kit.
The model features a working screw and sound effects as well.

The “breathers” Swap out to simulate closed and open displays.

Ay;

“Tis a Sea Monster Captain.She’s coming for us! Hang on!” This indeed would strike fear in the hearts and minds of a surface sailor in the day. Very nice work in Recreating one of the really Beautiful objects from the mind of Disney. I have read both the French( with a French/English Dictionary close by) and English version of this famous tale.

Nowhere in the books is she described as she appears here. Still an awesome rendition of the icon we all remember! T.B.

Got a whale of a tale to tell you, lads…

I love it! That is a beautiful build.

One of my favorite sub designs, a combination of a shark and a gator. My other favorites are the Seaview, D.S.V. Seaquest, and the Stingray patrol sub.

From Nautilus Drydocks also. Wish I could afford the bigger ones. I take it you got the interior detail from him too. There was none availabloe back when I bought my kit.

Good stuff,love the interior

Many thanks!

Anothe pic of my build…

Hey;

You actually made it watertight? What do the fish in the aquarium think of that? LOL! LOL! Very nice effects!.

Looks great, doesn’t it? Drydocks had a top half version for a water line effect, sound effects, and remote control.

That is awesome! My favorite movie and story growing up. Maybe that’s why I went into submarines in the navy. It really looks great! Well done! Very impressed.

Many,many sincere thanks!!![:D]

Wow, what a great job! I just got my kit delivered this week and have been drooling over the details. Love the attention to details in the parlor. I’ve ordered some sofa’s from Shapeways and figured I would build out the details from there. Did you scratchbuild everything? Spot on with lighting; agree the warm lights are the way to go.

I built one of the Nautilus Drydocks model of the NAUTILUS a few years ago and set it up with radio control gear. I also added various LED’s; and painted the model with various Alclad II lacquers. To improve steering, I cut a slit in the rudder and inserted a piece of clear Lexan.
