1/72 Scale Messerschmitt Me 109E-3 Decal Question

This is my first post, so greetings from a very cold Wisconsin!

Due to a serious illness that often keeps me home, I decided to go back to my first love…modeling WWII AFVs, planes and figures. I modeled a lot when I was a kid (even won a few first place honors for diorama modeling), but have not worked in this scale for 35 years.

I was absolutely amazed at how many new manufacturers, products, and resources are now available online for this wonderful hobby. Whike I have read FSM on and off for the last few years, I never browsed the forums until last week. What a great source of information! All of you are to be applauded for not only your skills, but for sharing your beautiful works of art and helping each other out.

I am hoping that someone can help me find a detail sheet that may or may not exist.

I want to do a 1/72 Scale Messerschmitt Me 109E-3 from the 1939 Polish campaign. I came across this one and am hoping to make it.

“Messerschmitt Me 109E-3, 4. Staffel, II. Gruppe, JG 77, Pilot: Oberleutnant Helmut Henz (Staffelkapitän) Poland, September 1939”

However, I cannot find a decal sheet for it. it does not need to be this exact plane, but it would be nice to get one from the same squadron or close to it.

Thanks!

Hi John! Welcome to the Forums! Glad to have you aboard.

I can’t help you on this but if you post your question on the “Decaling” section of these Forums I’m sure that someone will be able to help you.

Jim [cptn]

Very kind of you, thanks Jim. I am excited to be a part of this group.

Newbie Question…how do I add photos to my posts so that the picture itself appears in the body of the post and not just a link?

I think I found something you can work with.

The second plane down is a later version of his plane but the markings look the same.

Nice find Johnny, thats very possably the same aircraft just over painted.

John, unfortunatly though, II Gruppe was not invloved in the Polish campaign. They spent the start of the campaign in North Germany first at Nordholz, then Neumünster and then at the end of Sept moving to Dünstekoven, south of Cologne.

Thank you! I am going to pick up that decal set!

Thank you Bish. Good catch. I still want to make that version, so this is all helpful.

Can you point me to some resources on Luftwaffe units that operated in a Poland in 1939? Do any manufacturers make decals for them?

Again, you guys are great. It is a treat to be part of our forum like this and be able to tap into such a deep well of knowledge and expertise.
