1/72 Scale Dragon Sturmtiger completed

Finally finished the little Sturmtiger. Tracks were rather tight but not bad. Only real problem was the fit of the rear idler wheels. They do not fit between the final road wheels without some minor surgery. Real fun kit, the upper hull is diecast metal as is the rear of the superstructure. The engine exhaust covers are pre-formed photo etch brass.

Ignore the upturned tow shackle, I repositioned it correctly.

Wow. She really looks mean. Especially with that ready mortar round on the gun. Great one, major. Or shall I say great little one, major. He-he-he.

A very slick, mean looking piece. Thanks for the pics.

Nice job on a nasty looking beastie [:)]

Nice job! Looks tough.

Matt

Great build

I have that kit, i combined it with the revel of germany tiger 1. It was a perfect fit requiring very little filling. I have some pictrues so i’ll post later today. Bill

Again, thanks guys. Bill, I plan on doing that with the AMC Berge Tiger I have.

Very nice build Rob,you guys are going to end up making me try some braile scale . I love the things you lot can do with something so small [}:)][:D][:D]

I just threw my $10 at the screen. Thanks for the review, I was planning on this one to add to the pile of kits I’ll probably never get to.
Great build, thanks for sharing.

Great work have you seen this, DVD Tanks at War Series PzKpfwV1,Tiger there is an actual shot of the Sturmtiger firing off a round and you can see the trajectory of the round as it leaves the gun ,also its the best DVD on Tigers I have seen.available from www.ddvideo.co.uk

Good job… Die cast huh? I’ll have to check out one of these new little dragon kits.

Great work Rob! Musta been tough wrassling with those little trax.

Yea serious rob , that came out pretty darn good ! I am impressed ![8D] Put the ole’ dirt to that beast quick !

Looks great, Maj Rob. You did a terrific job. I’ve built their Elefant and the tracks are exactly the opposite. They were about 4 links too long. Not a lot of fun to fix! I’m working on the JadgPanther (Late) and it’s getting pretty close. Thanks for the review and heads up on the Sturm. I’ve got one also. What color did you paint the morter round? I can’t tell the color on my monitor.

Thanks for sharing.

What’s your impression of the AMC Bergetiger? I’ve got one too and I wasn’t very impressed with it, so I ended up transfering the unique bits over to a Hasagawa Tiger I kit. Just curious what your thoughts are.

Another quick question. What paint did you use on the tracks? I painted the tracks on the Jagdpanther with Testor’s Model Master Flat Black for a base and they stayed tacky. I put some Tamiya clear over them and they dried fine, but when I hit them with a rust colored wash (Humbrol and oil paint mixture) they went tacky again, although not as badly. I didn’t have any trouble with the tracks on the Elefant!

Yeah, that is a cool touch, isn’t it Dwight?

I wonder if that’s the largest bore cannon ever mounted on an armored fighting vehicle?

The vehicle and tracks were painted with Testors Model Master acrylics. The tiger is painted modern armor sand and the tracks were airbrushed earth red (#4707) straight out of the bottle. When I hand painted the Dragon Elefant tracks with MM enamels, the tracks went tacky like you mentioned. So, I learned that the best way to paint these vinyl tracks is with acrylics and an airbrush. Couple of zaps and they’re done.

I use Testors enamel rubber for the wash over the vehicle and other Testors MM enamels for the detail items like the shovel and ax. The mortar round was painted Testors OD from the spray can (cheap type found in Wal-Mart). The instructions call for dark green, it looked close enough to me.

These Dragon armor kits are relatively cheap. They retail for $8.95 around here and IPMS members get 10% off at local shops, so they run me about $8 a pop. Best things about these kits is that:
(1) They are cheap.
(2) I build them (no great unbuilt piles of Braille kits) and finish them.
(3) They build quickly so I don’t lose interest in them.
(4) Not a lot of aftermarket items available so you don’t feel the need to buy the $20 Eduard PE set, $30 Fruil tracks and $7 Jordi Rubio barrel.
(5) (Most important) They are fun to build.

As far as the AMC Bergetiger, I won the Revell Tiger ausf. E and troops on eBay for $5 but since I have the Revell Tiger I ausf. H, I wanted to do something different with it. That’s why I bought the Bergetiger on sale at Squadron.com. I knew before hand that I would have to use the Revell late Tiger to make the Bergetiger acceptable.

Nice job! I should do that kit some time! Great job!
