1/72 Revell Germany E555 completed

Hi all, I built this kit for the in my stash group build and thought I’d post it here as well.

When I first discovered the existence of this kit I knew I had to have one but as it had long been out of production I could only find them on ebay and they normally go for $60 or more, the last one I saw on ebay went for over $120. Imagine my surprise when a good friend of mine was cleaning out his stash and presented this kit along with a bunch others. Thought I’d won the lottery!!! [8-]

Anyway, the build is pretty much out of the box, I had to fill in some significant sink holes including a reconstruction of a hub on the front wheel. The decals were old and some of the adhesive left a yellow stain on the carrier film. In hind sight I should have trimed some of the excessive carrier film off. The camo is of my own creation. I couldn’t find a camo pattern that I liked and wanted to do something other than splotches of RLM 75 over 76 and since we’re talking about Luft’ 46 here I took a little creative licence on it. It consists of RLM 74/75 over 76. I painted the aircraft overall 76 and then used silly putty to mask off all the spots and sprayed RLM 75, removed the mask and then freehanded RLM 74 in the center of the spots. I then oversprayed everything with diluted RLM 76 to fade it out.

All comments welcom.

Dave, that is a stunning looking build.

I really love the camo scheme, completely wild.

I built the same kit a few years back and loved every minute of it.

Stunning work Dave! Beautiful aircraft, and that camo job is outstanding! Well done. [tup]

Great work, Dave. I have one in the stash, hard for me to believe that people want to pay that much on eBay, isn’t it. It is an an interesting design concept.

Love at first sight!

Crazy cool!

Dave,

Excellent work, that camo is just amazing!

I wasn’t willing to pay the exorbitant prices on ebay for this one either, but I bought one that was built unpainted a by a rookie modeler for $10, just have to get it apart!

I must admit, im not a great fan of ‘46’ luftwaffe planes but this thing has changed me and knocked me for six. That is just an amazing looking plane and build. The camo is just fantastic. How did you do it? The glazing looks mint as well and we all know how dificult getting multi windows to look right in 1/72nd.

10 out of 10 fella. awesome.

I must say that is an awesome build of an awesome looking airplane!

Cool! I like the watermark camo job, well done Dave! [tup]

Thanks Guys for all your comments, they mean a lot to me.

I’m hoping that Revell Germany will re-release this one soon as they have with some of their other Luft’ 46 kits. I would definitely do this one again. [tup]

Truly beautiful work on the E555. The paint and camo is superb.

Dave that is very extreme!! That idea for the camo worked out really well. What a great look it has.

Wow… great build, LOVe the camo… and the technical aspects of pulling it off, waaaay beyond my skills! Bravo zulu mate…

…and I was 'watching" one E555 in ebay couple weeks ago, went for 50+ USD, maybe more, I stopped 'watching" with a day to go…

Very unique camo scheme on a very unique subject … can’t say I’ve too many around these parts. Actually, I think this may be the first time I’ve seen something like that. Very nice work, Dave! I like it…a LOT!! [tup]

What the other said. excellent work on the ring camo. nice unusual subject.

Wow, coming from you Marc (Mr. Extreme) I consider that quite the complement!

Thanks to everyone else for your comments, I had a lot of fun doing this one.

Now THAT is a cool plane. Awesome build, the camo is stunning.

Did that thing actually fly, or was it just a gleam in some Nazi engineer’s eye?

Swords! Breathtaking!..the camo looks like CG! EVERYTHING is crisp and neat!
