1/72 M*A*S*H Diorama

Hi all,

I just got done with my MAS*H diorama, have a look! I wasn’t going for accurate details (I’m sure there are plenty of gaffes), I was trying to have some fun and capture a bit of the spirit from the show. About halfway through I cursed my decision to do it in 1/72nd, but it all worked out in the end…barely! The base/case is an AMT case for 1/24 cars, the Bell 47 is Italeri, the Jeep came from an Airfix LTV 4 Buffalo + Willys Jeep set, the bunker is a mish-mash of Airfix Forward Command Post and Italeri Battlefield Buildings, and the figures are from a variety of sets (with some of them Frankensteined), including Airfix Luftwaffe Personnel, Esci US Infantry, Esci Commonwealth Troops, Esci British Commandos, and Esci French WWII Troops.

Cheers,

Matt.

Very cool. Love it

Nice job.

That’s… wow. Nicely done.

Very nice job.

Dioramas can be fun…requires a bit more imagination…

Hey FYI…netflix had all of the MASH episodes

Very nicely done. Good idea building inside one of those cases for the dust cover.

What did you make the ‘dirt’ ground cover?

Thanks guys! I’m thinking of maybe doing a ‘Tour of Duty’ diorama next.

I used Crayola air-dry clay for the dirt. I spread it on thin then textured it by pressing coarse sandpaper and bits of wood onto it, and made some tracks and prints with the jeep and figures. The next morning I awoke to find the clay badly cracked, so I filled in the cracks with normal modelling putty then re-textured it, and painted it with Tamiya paints when it was dry.

Cheers,

Matt.

Nice!

Mike

Hawkeye! love it.

Hey thanks. Hawkeye used to be a French stretcher-bearer in a trenchcoat, but I carved off his webbing and gear to make it resemble a robe. I also cut off his head and replaced it with a helmet-less head from another figure. I really wanted to incorporate some other characters from the show, but could not for the life of me find suitable female figures in 1/72, or any Lebanese men in fur coats for that matter
