1/72 King Tiger camo

I have a camo question.

I just finished my first 1/72 armor piece (Italeri 1/72nd King Tiger). I’m hooked now…and MUST build more!

One of the camo schemes in the kit has me scratching my head, perhaps one of you tankers out there can offer some insight.

It’s a fairly standard sand/military brown/dark green pattern. But it has small ‘specks’ (for lack of a better term) all over the tank, listed in ‘insignia white’. Is that right or a typo?

What benefit would the white flecking/spotting give the tank?

Hopefully, I’ll have pictures of it for you to snicker at soon…

The camo on the King Tiger you mentioned is the “Ambush Scheme” It’s the 3 color camo with “spots” of the same color mixed. Here is the Ambush pattern on my 1/35. (Hope this helped)

Here you can see somewhat of how it looks on a real King Tiger:

The intended purpose of the “ambush scheme” was to make the tank hide in dappled sunlight under trees better. Of course it only works if the vehicle is clean, which most vehicles in combat are not.

Cool. Thanks for the info!
