1/72 Heller KC-135 Canopy woes and Decal question

Hello all, need some advice
I just received my 1/72 scale Heller kit of the C-135 FR (which I will be building as a USAF KC-135). My problem is this – my one piece canopy is now about three pieces due to shipment [BH]
I was somewhat hearted to see, however, that the instructions come with a form on the back for reporting defective pieces. Has anyone else had to deal with this? As far as requesting new pieces from the manufacturer, I mean. I know it is worth a try, but should I expect any response?

My other question is about decals for the kit. Not expecting there to be sheets out there for -135’s, but wondering if there are some generic contemporary decals for transports and refuelers and the like.
Thanks in advance.

I am not absolutely certain, but I think Micro Scale had a sheet for the KC-135. It had the big 9 SRW shield on it for the Q models at Beale AFB, home of the SR-71 at the time. [alien]

I have had good luck with requesting replacement parts. It may take some time, but usually you will get a response. On the decals, you may ask around if anyone has some spare decals from the AMT/ERTL kit. Sometimes people will sell them on EBay. Those had markings for a ‘Shamu’ scheme from Castle AFB and a gray Fairchild AFB bird.

I’ve had good response from Heller in the past as regards replacing parts. I think all they require is the three IRCs but it might be a good idea to send along the UPC code from the box as well.

Regarding decals, Xtradecal has a sheet available, X038-72. They are available in the US from TwoBobs www.twobobs.net. There were sheets a from others as well but exactly who escapes me right now. I’m thinking Three Guys Replicas and Expert’s Choice by Bare Metal Foil.

The three IRCs??[%-)]

well MicroScale also did another KC-135 sheet with markings for 2 KC-135A’s and 2 KC-135E’s one of the E’s is from Wurtsmuth Air Force Base near Alpena Michigan (MIANG air base now) and one of the A’s is from K.I. Sawyer AFB in Marquette Michigan (now closed)

International Reply Coupons. In the past, Heller has required these as payment for postage, perhaps more as a way to stop people from abusing the parts replacement service. Maybe these aren’t necessary anymore.

I think Mikeym is thinking of the Experts Choice decal (but printed by Microscale, probably). Looks like they still have 'em:

You have to click decal items, then 1/72 scale, then scroll down.

Thanks for the decal link, Mr. Boyer.

Duh! It would help to post some text.

Wurtsmith AFB is/was in Oscoda, MI about 55 miles south of Alpena hard by Lake Huron.
I served with the 379th Combat Defense Force (Security Police) from Dec. 1963 to Aug 1967 (Yep, did my whole tour there.) Many is the night I humped around a B.U.F.F. or a KC-135. Coldest place I’ve ever been or will be.
