1/72 F-101A/C Conversion sets

Hey Folks;

I’m trying to get a low down on a conversion kit for an 1/72 F-101 that is still availible, I’m trying to decide on which F-101 kit to get for the conversion the Hasegawa RF-101C or the Matchbox F-101B/F or the Revell F-101B, I know that the last 2 are out of production but if the conversion kit is like a scaled down version for the Revellograms 1/48 from F-101B to F-101C then I’m stuck but if I could convert the more availible Hasegawa kit then I’m in luck.

Please tell me which is the best set for which kit,

Thanks

What conversion kit are you considering?

Converting a two-seater into a single-seater is certainly possible, but putting the pointy fighter nose on the Hasegawa kit would be the way I’d go. If you could get a Revell '101B for detail parts, that could be a good thing. The Revell main tires would have to be thinned though, as they fattened them up to take the additional weight of the interceptor. They also bulged the main gear doors to accomodate the bigger tires.

I’ve seen an article where someone grafted an F-4E nose on to the Hasegawa kit, added cannon bulges and had themselves a pretty convincing '101A/C. Was that Paul Boyer’s?

Schnord05;

I’m trying to convert to the F-101A/C from the RF-101C or F-101B, I’ve seen conversion sets out there but I can’t remember who or if they are still in production, I thought I’ve seen a conversion set from Cutting Edge but we all know that they are now the way of the Dodo and I don’t remember whose set they sold.

I’ve seen resin, and Vacuuformed sets and still haven’t found who makes them.

Check Hannants - they have the Aeroclub and Airwaves conversion you’re looking for (I can’t paste the address as this antiquated forum won’t allow - sorry). Do a search on Hannants for “F-101A/C” . Also note that Hannats has the reissued RF-101G/H nose.

Easiest project would be to use the Haegawa/Frog/AMT/Minicraft kit, but you can, with a lot of effort (ask me how I know!) convert the Revell F-101B using Hasegawa parts . However, …the cost is the Has kit + Revell kit (hard to find at reasonable price) + conversion kit (or use a suitable nose from a kit like the F-4E).

I don’t know why people are having trouble posting links. Here is the link to the Aeroclub F-101 sets at Hannants:
