Well this is the first time I have posted any of my finished work on the forums so here it goes. The plane is the Do-335B-4 Recon from Dragon that I built for the Endgame 1946 GB and the Fantasy Fliers GB.
It was a very challenging build as it is not a very well engineered kit. Huge gaps appeared around the wing roots and fuselage. This proved difficult to fix as it was my first build that required major filling. A couple of nice things about the kit were the included wing extensions and the two DB-603’s. Dragon did leave out a camera port so I added one. I also added an extra antennae under the wing and the tropical dust filter on the front supercharger intake. A Squadron vac-form canopy was used as the fit of the oringinal one was horrendous.
I made up a late-war German low-vis splinter camo and markings. It is made to look like it made numerous high and low altitude recon runs over Allied territory. Without further delay, here is the 1/72 Dragon Do-335B-4:
I have heard about the fit on that kit, looks like you perservered and did an excellent job with it! I like your camo scheme, very cool. Looks like a cross between a Heinkel -111 and a -219. [tup]
Thanks for the kind words Frank. I wish I would have heard about the fit problems before I bought it. Think I will go with the Tamiya next time. As for the camo, I took the idea from a combination of the He-219, Kommano Nowotny Me-262’s, and low-vis F-14’s.
A wise choice! I built that one a couple of years back, and it was one of the best-fitting model kits I have ever built. Only word of advice on that one, Tamiya designed the wings with a simple “click” fit- they will need some adjustments to get a tight gap-free fit. [tup]
Very nice job Warhammer. The Do335 is one of my favourite Luftwaffe subjects. I just love the low viz camo.
I built the 48th Tamiya offerring a while ago and it still ranks as one of the best fiting kits ive built yet and ive built a few. Give one of them ago, it will be like a breath of fresh air.
Nice build Warhammer. I’ve built a few dragon 1/72 offerings and I know of the engineering issues of which you speak. [xx(] Looks like you figured this one out. [tup][tup]
Thanks guys. Glad you guys like the what-if scheme too. And thanks for the encouragement on the Tamiya kit. I think I will get their B-2 version and not build another 1/72 Dragon for a while now.
