1/72 DML Leopard 2A6

Hi again!

Yup, I’ve been busy–working on this braille-scale 1/72 Leo 2A6 from DML for a little dio I’ve been doing for Jenn. I thought I’d show off the tank here, as it’s a pretty nice stand-alone piece. It has one-piece tracks, but they really fit surprisingly well, and took Tamiya paint no problem. I glued them with regualr CA glue. It also comes with the cables on the back. Painted with Tamiya paints, and weathering done with a MIG filter and “splatter effect” with acrylic paint for the mud effects.

and heres the setting so far–still wating on a 1/72 scale girl civilian figure to come in… Gunner Jenn…[:I]

More pics in the dio esction here!

Very cool splatter mud effect! Hard to do in 1/35, even more so in braile scale. NICE. My wife, the horse nut in these parts, really likes the horseys! Again, really cool looking kittie. Great idea you have there dude!

Doug

Very, very nice!

I love the camo and the weathering. But the tank… Hmm… I much rather like the Leopard 2 with the more square turret. But this is nice as well. How was the 1/72? Is it in DMLs ArmorPRO serie?

And the horse… Love it! So the cow! Or is that a horse with a cow camopattern? [swg]

Who made the cow and/or the horse?

And… Well…I like it. Way better than mine for sure!! [:D]

Doog impressive mud splatter and horse - but the piccies - aren;t they a bit dark? Can you lighten them up a it in post-production? Also, the turret rear baskets; have a look at some piccies of the real thing here:

http://www.panzerbaer.de/types/bw_kpz_leopard_2_a6m-a.htm

and then tell me if you think they’re on at the right angle?

Cheers,

Chris.

Hmmph! How’d I miss that, Chris?! [banghead]

Thanks for theheads up on that! I honestly did’t even realize that the one is crooked! I can break that off and reglue…

The pics were taken last night–usually I do it during the day in natural daylight. I could lighten them up in a program, but I don;t want to have to reload them all…too much work right now! [:-^]

Thanks for the important critique! [:D]

Thanks, Doug!

And Huxy!

The horses are from Preisser. They’re copies of Historex 1/32 horses, as far as I can tell?

The patttern on the one horse is a common pattern to many breeds–not just cows! LOL! Jenn calls it a “ghost face”–a dark horse with a light face. [:)]

I do like that Leo 2A4 with the square turret. It’s funny; I ws thinking of building that in 1/35 soon! THis was just a regular DML kit, not a Pro series.

Very Nice Karl. Gotta luv those little ones. One little hint. The caps of the smoke grenade dischargers are black and not the vehicles colors. I built the DML 2A6 about 3 years back but unfortunately it took some moving damage so I am not going to post a pic. I still have a RoG kit of the Panzerhaubitze 2000 thinking about painting in a desert camo for possible deployment to ISAF.

Joe

Thanks JOe! I’ll correct that! It’s easy to miss stufff like this in this tiny scale! [8D]

Great “little” big cat there Karl.

I love the camo work, especially in this scale. [bow]

Thank you Phil!

I used MIG’s acrylic mask for this one. [:D]

Karl, after seeing this one I went straight to the LHS and got me the 2A4 again anf I am planning on giving him ISAF desert camo.

Whoa!!! That is very impressive, Karl (but I’ve come to expect nothing less coming off your workbench! [tup] ). Great paint work, especially for such a small scale. I seriously don’t know how you armor guys do it. Jen’s gonna be thrilled with that one!

Gee Karl,

in that scale and still looking good. I look forward to a 1/35 of that!

As I said in the dio forum, Karl, that is a fine build!

Well done sir!

Mike

Thanks, Steve! I did an A5 a little while ago…

Thanks, too Mike, and Mad Mike!! [:D]

Leopardman–glad you liked it. What is the ISAF Desert camo scheme?! Do you have a photo?

Hey Leopardman–try these two schemes! [:P]

Greek Leo…

“Urban” Leo?

Karl, the desert camo would be a what if. Since Germany has not any Leo’s deployed to Afghanistan yet. But they have the Marder now there for the QRF in Masar- Al- Sharif. Here are a Dingo and a Fuchs that they use in Afghanistan. I have also seen pictures where the green was just replaced with sand color or the whole vehicle ws covered in dried mud which would make it a 100% Karl project…lol.

Joe

The greek Leo has shall we say a unique camo…lol. As far as the Urban Leo is concerned it is only a prototype called Leopard 2 PSO ( Peace Support Operation). And yes it is intended for urban warfare. It is based on a Leo2A6M and modified with a 360 degree infrared tv system as well as a remote weapons station for either a .50cal or a 40mm grenade launcher. It aslo includes additional armor like for the smoke granade dischargers and on the engine deck. Here is a little video.

Nice Karl, Mike L. at walts told me you were building one of these.

First he rusts, the he gets old, then he gets into animals, then he grows wings, now he shrinks. He’s like some sort of X man or something. I’m soooo confused, it must be a dream.

I’ll take two shots of Scotch and check again in the morning…

Very nice[;)]

Rounds Complete!!
