Looking to detail a Italeria 1/72 C-130. I’m resolved to have to scratch-build most of the inteior; however, having trouble finding specifications for the cargo seat dimensions. Looks as Eduard discontinued their cargo seat phot etched line in this scale. 'Course, I could get the 1/48 scale and do determine appropriate scale factor to etch my own; however, feeling a bit lazy and trying to see if anyone has already done the leg work.
I’ve spent a few hours in those seats. The mesh back was about 3 feet high, and the seat bench abut 18” deep from what I recall.
LOL! I agree! spent more ‘time’ sitting in those over the years. Size sounds about right.
Hey jabunn,
I made mine out of masking tape. Below are the dimensions in case they might be of use to you. The finished seats were designed to attach to a rail about 22mm above the cargo deck, as shown in the second photo.
Cheers,
Russ
Well done! Insane amount of time to make I’m sure, but well done. Now multiply that by 35 times…
Thanks for the good words, mawright20. Actually, they don’t take that long to make. You can lay out a whole strip of masking tape and draw out and cut the individual pieces pretty quick. What takes the longest is cutting the individual strips of weave and getting them straight. You need to cut them on a hard surface. I cut out the the vertical strips along with the seat backs, then cut individual strips for the cross pieces.
I made a total of eight seats and that was a trial, but 35…??? eesh!
I spent 18 years as a C-130 Navigator. Know those seats all toooooo well. You could recognize the ‘veteran’ C130 passengers, they had some sort of head band to secure their heads to the seat backs while sleeping. Also needed to walk across many tightly packed knees back and forth over the years. Great times! ;>}
Eight times, huh? We could carry 64 paratroops or upi to 70-ish pax.
Yeah, way to many hours on one-way trips. Looking to make a diagrama loading a C-130 for a drop from Aviano Air Base back in the late 70’s.
Looks great! I found 1/72 photo etch of the webbed backing, but will have to scratch build everthing else. I’m rigging the ship for 65 paratroopers, so will take some time. Scratching around for suitable troops and think I finally have a god range of poses; however, I’ll have to scratch build all of the chutes and various accoutrements that hung off of the MC1-1B.
