1/72 Academy AH-64D Apache

Hello All!

Just got this kit as a Christmas gift from my cousin. Thought it’d be nice if I start working on it instead of cure it in the room for years like my other kits.

This is the Late Block II of the AH-64D and I learned there are not much photos of it avaialable on line. This chopper has the exhuast open towards the top only and it seems to be very rare.

Not doing any intensive modification, but added seat belts from Eduard color reference picture…Just printed on my inkjet printer, cut, slapped them on.

It included the canopy mask. I decided to dulicated it, and print another one for the inside.

It was hard to decide on the color. The manual called for FS34087 Olive Drab, my research showed FS 34031 is the correct one.

Since I use Tamiya, I tried to mix it up. But what I got here, there wouldn’t be any hint of green in it…

So I just decided to go wild. First base coated with XF-69 Nato Black. Then sprayed XF-51 Khaki Drab on top. It looked too light and green. Sprayed another coat, this time with XF-62. It was better but still too green. Finally, thin spray of Nato Black was added. The result looks like this.

I like how it turned out. But not there yet. The bodies that came from the same base are incredibly weathered. I will play with it tomorow and see how close I can get to the real thing. Might be just too much though. Looks like it had Gray camo, then stripped back to Olive drab almost.

Not sure where this one if from but pretty dirty

Nice work, look forward to seeing the end result. I have the British Army version i’ll be building later this year.

Very nice start sir…the pit looks great. IMHO the paint looks very close to the photos.

Thank you!

She’s done. Those decals weren’t easy to apply, and most of the Black ones became invisible after the weathering and flat coat.

Thanks guys[

I am sure you can do better than mine.

Hello!

Lookin’ good! Those decals probably didn’t like to be put on a flat surface like this - but you have no silvering, or at least I don’t see any, so congratulations! What’s next? Thanks for sharing and have a nice day

Paweł

Looks real.

Thank you!

There was some silvering but after weathering, it hid them well. [;)]

Not sure what’s next. Maybe the Revell P-47N 1/48…?
