1:700 Adams Class Destroyer Model

I’m trying to find a 1:700 scale model kit of the Charles F. Adams Class Destroyer for my dad (used to serve on the ship), but have had no luck finding one for sale on any model website or aution houses. Anyone have any suggestions? From what I’ve read, the one by Dragon models seems to be the best for detail and quality, but I’d really be happy to see any for sale at this point.

I PM’d you with some information on the Dragon/ Pit-road- skywave kit. Dragon released it as Adams and Cochrane. I also added some info on the Iron Shipwright 1/350 resin kit.

The Dragon kit has been reissued many times. I recall seeing the kit about once a month on that well known wEB site.

If you cannot find it, I have an extra.

Thank you all for the help, I’ve been able to track one down

My husband was on the Cochran DDG-21 over 38 years ago. He thought that building a model of the ship to start his retirement would be a fun hobby, so I’m trying to find a model for him for Christmas. I’ve looked online and on ebay, but can’t find anything other than a place that seems to be oversees and might not get here on time. Does anyone here have any ideas for me? Thanks.

Don’t forget to look for Dragon’s 1/700 USS Charles F. Adams Full Hull kit. It is the same mold as the Cochran and it is more correct for Cochran than for Adams. And there is the Revell 1/700 Rommel DDG kit. It is the same basic mold with additional parts so that it can be German or US or Austrailian. It is based on the Skywave mold so I believe it is waterline only.

ie: D187 Rommel was one of three Lütjens-class guided-missile destroyers, a modified version of the American Charles F. Adams class.

The big question, Would a Charles F. Adams Class Resin kit at 1/350 scale work?

It’s much more expensive than the 1/700 plastic kits, but very detailed. And it is available. Try Iron Shipwright too as they may have a discount going on now.

If he has not dealt with a resin kit before he might want to get something smaller to practice on. Definetly have him join the Ships forum and we will help him thru any learning curve.

Building a model to start Retirement is the best idea in the world.
