1/48th F-14A Tomcat

Here is my Academy F-14A Tomcat. It is pretty much OOB with the exception of CAM Decals VF-102 Diamondback markings and EagleStrike data markings, and the engine nozzles which were liberated from a Revell F-14 kit.

This build represents a couple of firsts for me. This is the first time I have used Future, it also represents the first time I have done a wash. I have learned a couple things from this build…put one two coats of future to seal in the decals…I lost a decal (luckily it was just a data decal…no markings), and also put on landing gear and stores after the wash, because it made it difficult to wipe the wash with those pieces on.

So…without further ado…

Hay good job on the tomcat .Any place any time baby .tomcats forever.I’mbluilding my own hope to post pics when i’m done

Very good looking Tomcat! I like that you choose to keep the weathering on the lighter side. Looks like it’s ready to head out to the boat.[8D]

Nice clean build. Thanks for sharing.

[#ditto] Nice work! [tup]

Thanks guys. This was my second build in about 20 years, so I am pretty excited that it came out as well as it did. Trying to build up some practice to tackle one of those Hasegawa Tomcats

Well done my friend…!! Those Burner Cans look very good!! How did the Revell cans fit?? Any issues that you can think of??

By the way, nice choice of markings!! Over all build is well done! Hats off to you!! Welcome back to the hobby

Flaps up,

Mike

Butz…the Revell cans fit spot on…there were no fit issues at all. In fact, they fit better on the Academy kit than they did on the Revell kit!

Looks great[tup] I have the 1/48 Monogram in the stash. Needs a new pit as it was given to me already started and the pit is trashed.

Roy

You might be better off contacting Revell directly to get a new pit…all the AM stuff is for the Hasegawa kits and require a ton of work for a proper fit in the RM kit.

I am currently rescribing a couple RM Tomcats…they are great kits for the price

are you sure you’re not darren roberts

Yeah…if I was Darren Roberts, I would have used his nose correction set for the Academy kit!

very nice job on the tomcat, clean lines, nice construction, job well done!

Very nice cat

well done! Top Gun was on TV last week and got me on a “Tomcat high”. I’m more of a prop builder, but man those F-14’s are awesome!

Hey good work on nice subject. Keep em coming.

…Guy

Nice job, but aren’t those burner cans for a later F-14D? I may be getting my versions wrong, but I seem to recall only the later upgraded engines having those type of exhausts?

Anyway, regardless it’s a nice F-14. [tup]

B models had the GE engines.

The markings I used are for a B…so I figured…what the heck!
