1/48 Trumpeter F-100D cockpit colors

Hello All,

Just opened my 1/48 F-100D from Trumpeter to start on it over the long weekend. Reading through the instructions I noticed a lack of color indications when it came to painting the cockpit, panels and seat. Can anyone help me out a bit by listing the common colors that would be correct for the “Hun” office? Maybe even a nice photo or two?

Thanks,

Jar.

Howdy Jar,

Try this website:

It’s an excellent site dedicated to the Hun and her crews. Please keep us posted on your progress!

Blue Skies!

Fast Eagle,

A big thank you for that website. Talk about detailed photos! This is going to be quite the help for me. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction.

I will post some progress after the long weekend.

Just a “Head’s Up” & FYI… “948” is a privately-owned Super Sabre… I’ve never seen an operational cockpit that pristine… Clean, yes, but the seat isn’t sweat-stained & sun-faded, none of the switches are shiny, and the floor’s got too much paint, rather than being scuffed & chipped from dozens of pairs of flight-boots… Plus, the sticker on the lower left of the panel reads, “GPS NOT APPROVED FOR IFR”… Kinda gives it away, lol…

Great ref for initial color-painting though…

The standard color for the gray cockpits of all USAF airplanes was FS 36231 (Gunze H317).

Check out the photos of an F-100F cockpit at the USAF Museum website also.

When I was told about it I was blown away! Good stuff in there. If wouldn’t mind, please keep us posted on your progress and if you have the chance post a few photos. I haven’t been able to start on my 1/48 F-100D yet. Still have an F-16 and 727 to finish first.

Looks like you’ve now got plenty of info on the cockpit, but when you’re through with the kit, I’d be interested to know how you liked the kit, I was debating getting it.
