1/48 Tamiya Lancaster versions????

Does anyone know the difference between the kits by Tamiya TA61021 and TA 6421, they both say B MkIII Dambuster or 22,000lb Bomb versions. Or is the Motorized version worth the money instead.

all super expensive, but it’s probably better to buy it now before it fades away forever.

Cheers

The Dambuster would not be the same as the 22,000 lb version-- the only bomb that was carried by the Lanc weighing 22,000 lbs was the Grand Slam. I have that one in the stash waiting for my skills to improve…I am not sure if I’ll motorize it or whether I’ll use the motors for other builds…but I think the kit was well worth the $$ I spent on it-- I did get it cheaper than retail using eBay though…

Someone correct me if I’m wrong but the new version of the kit that has motors only is the grand slam version, no dambuster option, the old one, with that option and the grandslam doesn’t have the motors . I’ve heard someone say they screwed up the molds with the motorized version but I haven’t seen it for myself so I don’t know.

I haven’t seen the Prop Action Lancaster, but I have seen about seven in the series. All the ones I saw were the standard release kit with added parts and a pretty nice looking motor. Even if you don’t want to make the kit a prop action, you can save the motor for something else.

I just looked at my Grand Slam/Dambuster version (older release) and all the parts for the dambuster are one one tree and the grand slam on another. It would be simple to delete one tree and sell the kit as a dambuster or grand slam only. They may have done this with the prop action kit.

what i mean is the two code numbers are for older models, both discontinued. but both are reported with the same title.

and i’ve seen the motorized version, which is even more expensive.
just wondering if there is a mold difference with the older two, ie: one being a newer mold with more detail.

thanks for the info though.

They’re all the same basic kit, with differing additions/deletions. I have the original BI/III in my stash, but I would think that due to the fuselage and/or bomb bay differences, there would be quite a few parts needed to convert one kit to the other. One thing worth considering though, is to get the Paragon bulged bomb bay kit, which would allow you to make any mark that had the enlarged bomb bay for carrying the BIG 8,000lb bomb?
