Hey guys, always been an aircraft guy, but today while in Hobby Lobby I saw the new 1/48 scale German Tiger I early production kit by Tamiya for $30 sitting on the clearance rack, making it 15 bones. I figured it was a good deal, so I walked up front and tried the 40% coupon because I figured either way, 15 bones for a 1/48 scale kit is good. I don’t think they were supposed to use the coupon, but regardless, I walked out with a brand new kit for only 10 bucks after tax. I know I got a good deal, but how is the kit in terms of fit and everything. This will be my first tank whenever I get around to it.
At that price you got a good deal on a nice little kit. The new scale isn’t everybody’s cup of tea, but they do build up nicely, and there is more and more aftermarket stuff for them.
Not the best 1/48th scale Tiger I on the market, but it builds up nicely and you should have no problems with it. It is a great kit to build and a good starter kit, plus the price is right.
Just finished assembling mine, it does go together fantastically well. I’m a relative “old newcomer” (as in I started out years ago, took a long break and am now back to it) and I absolutely love the 1/48 line. There’s more and more after-market stuff like photo-etch sets coming out for it so chances are I’ll get into those via the 1/48 line. Next up I’m doing a Jagdpanther, then probably a Sherman, and after that I’m hoping that the Arika Korps Tiger is out, and then the King Tiger…
Oleander, it’s a great kit, especially for someone new to armor who doesn’t want to fiddle with armor-specific kit issues. You might even want to do a Kursk multimedia-type display, with the Tiger and a Stuka in the same display.
Yeah, it’s a good kit. The original price of $30 is a bit much. I’m glad you got it for a good discount. I had some issues with the tracks, but I often have issues with link-n-length and indy tracks.
