Today I am finishing off the masters for a vacuformed clear parts set for this same kit. Set includes Windshield and side panels that actually fit and do not stand proud of the surface except where they are supposed to. It also includes four panes for the cargo compartment.

I’ve expanded the resin set a wee bit. I’ve added an overhead console and a fire extinguisher. Now I can start working on the cargo compartment set.
Taking a break from making detail sets I thinned the walls around the cooling vents and laid in a sheet of Xtratech wire mesh. Since the outer skin is now thinner I had to beef up the engine bulkhead where it meets the skin of the helicopter - that’s the white you see along the edge.

These first two sets have gotten such great reviews now I have charged right into developing the cargo bay area. Now this is only some foundation work, some of these will be provided only as cutting templates while others like the detailed forward bulkhead will be resin and there are other resin details yet to be designed.

Hey Swanney, what are you using for referrence in your H-19 resin projects?
Lots and lots of pictures of H-19 helicopters. I am using the internet to search various pictures of aircraft plus have several interested parties who worked on these aircraft during their professional careers providing images as well. As with any aircraft that saw an extended service life there are many minor variations, usually in the cockpit and cargo bay, so I try to pick the most commonly occurring large details and keep them in the picture. I’ll never claim that these sets are 100% accurate but I can say they are a heck of a lot closer than what Revell did in 1955.
One example is the sound deadening material in the cargo bay, I’m not going to replicate this but will keep the basic seats and bulkhead details. Once painted and enclosed inside the impression should be good and if the modeler cares to add material then more power to him. I will have at least provided a good, workable foundation.
Floor, ceiling, door and bulkheads are complete. Still working on seats and power transmission box.
The molds are all complete. Now I need to work over instruction sheets and take a bunch of pictures for building reference. I’m thinking this one may be ready for release next weekend the 27th providing I am not tied up with the arrival of grandson #1.
So here are the resin pieces that come with the set
What we have here are;
Forward Bulkhead
Aft Bulkhead
Four person canvas bench seat
Three person canvas bench seat in stowed position
New sliding side door
Power transmission housing (2 triangular pieces)
Fire extinguisher
In addition to these are cutting templates for the floor, roof and forward cockpit bulkhead to blank off the radiator area in front.

Swanny, I really do hate to burst you bubble, especially after all the work you’ve done, but the 4-person seat should actually be a 5-person seat and the 3-person seat should be a 4-person seat. and your missing the oil tand that fit between the engine fire wall and the forward cargo compartment bulkhead, as well as the over-head in the rear area of the cargo compartment. The overhead you have would extend only as far as the cockpit/main rotor transmission, after that the cabin assumes the fuselage curvature to the rear bulkhead, along with heater ducts along both sides. At least thats what the plans that I got from the Igor Sikorsky Museum show for an H-19.
You are right but I can only add a certain level of detail being somewhat constrained by the kit parameters. I am trying for the best level of accuracy I can get for the things most visible and a general impression of what should be there in the rest of the space. More than anything it provides a fairly good foundation for a modeler to go further if they desire. No matter how much I stuff in there at whatever cost I’ll never be able to achieve 100% perfection. It’s better than where the kit started, not perfect but it is what it is.
