1/48 Sea Hurricane Mk.II

This is my contribution to the on-going FAA GB. It’s the Hasegawa kit, done basically OOB except for a scratchbuilt headrest and some modifications to the lower fuselage to accomodate the scratchbuild arresting hook. The seat/bulkhead and rear canopy piece is part of a CMK resin AM set and the decals are from an old Aeromaster sheet. Here’s the post from the GB thread…

Very nice work there. Well done construction and finish. The antenna wiring looks superb.

Andy

MIke, that is really some excellent detail. I love the finish, but the interior takes the cake. What did you use for a wash? Seriously, that’s some top notch work.

Many thanks for the compliments, guys! Means a lot to me.

Andy, funny story about that antenna wire. I wanted to show my wife the burnt-out match trick and wound up holding it too close, burning right through it! Talk about having egg on my face! LOL! The one in the pic is my second try. [;)]

Mucker, I experimented with a few colors in my search for a nice compliment to RAF interior green and was most pleased with the results I got from using thinned MM RLM74.

Really nice Mike. I love the finish… very well executed…

Many thanks, Marc. I really appreciate the compliments! [tup]

As everyone have said, beautifully done. I especially like the cockpit, shame to cover up some of that nice detail. As for the antenna, what technique did you use to make the insulators? I’ve never been very succesful in making those.

waikong, thanks much for the compliments. For the insulators, I just slowly build up tiny amounts of white glue, applied with a very fine tip (I always save the two ends every time I stretch some sprue…they make great applicators) until it looks OK to me, taking into account shrinkage when it dries. After it’s dry, it’s touched up with white or light grey acrylic paint.

Mike,

it does not get any better than that. I love this Hurricane! Superb! [bow][bow][bow]

Hey Darren! Thanks buddy! [tup]

…oh, and I’ve started my Mk.Vb Spit. [;)] I’ll tell ya, catching the bug to build of those birds was easier than catching the flu!

Wow, excellent Mike. That is a great finish. Luv the subtle shading. And that is a superb cockpit. Well done[tup]

Hey, thanks Drew! It is much appreciated! [tup]

Beautiful Hurricane! That office is fantastic, and the paint is great.

Magnificent!

Jon, Andy…thanks much for the kind words, guys! Means a lot to me. [tup]

Beautiful job. I have a couple of these lined up on my “to do” list shortly too.

Mike, WOW, outstanding work!

Roy

I’ve been studying your photos for several days now, and still the only thing I can think to say is, It’s a great Model! The RLM 74 works well with the British interor green, too. I tried it on the Mk XVI Spitfire I’m building and it doesn’t look as good as yours, but that’s only because of my technique. (As in I don’t know what I am doing! [:o)])

Mike, Roy, & John…thanks very much for the compliments, guys! [tup]

Mike, the only thing I can tell you to beware of when you build yours is that the wing-root fuselage joints are a little tight to the point where you can lose some dihedral, so be prepared to remove a little plastic for a good fit.

John, I just do a pin wash with a fine brush after I’ve let my Future coat set up. Two applications of the wash do the trick.
