Hey, anyone know if there are any 1/48 scale German helocopters on the market? I saw some photos in “German Aircraft of the second world war” by Antony L Kay and J R smith. (This book is really worth buying by the way) Any help would be appreciated.[:D]
I think there are one or two models out there, but I’m not sure of the scale(think they are 1/72nd)
What about a Flettner FL 282 Kolibri (Humming Bird) Made by Huma of Germany in 1/48th scale? There was a very good review & build with lots of pictures in the July 2004 edition of scale aviation modeller International (sampublications.com for back orders) Randy Lutz, the reviewer, said the model is ‘An absolute gem’ For those who don’t know, this pioneering helicopter had two interlocking rotors, rather like a Karman Husky. Not sure of the price for this model, but if you really want one (though I don’t think it’s for beginners) It must be available on the net somewhere.
I’m sure I’ve seen a review of the Foch Achgellis(spelling?) somewhere, though I think that was 1/72nd. And I think there is a model of the ‘Kite’ autogyro that was towed behind U boats.

More info’ for you. Huma is a small German company, in the UK their products are imported by a company called Pocketbond who do not sell directly to the public but who are a trade outlet. Not sure where you are but I’m sure it won’t be hard for you to find an importer for Huma products.
The Flettner 282 is product number HM6500
The Focke Achgelis (twin rotor) is 1/72nd & is also a Huma product, Number HM5000.
The U boat ‘kite’ (drache in German I think) I can’t find, I have an idea it may have been a Focke Wulf product, not sure of that though.

I visited a new (to me) local hobby shop today, and they carried both the 1/48 Flettner Fl 282 and 1/72 Focke Achgelis Fa 223.
Interesting stuff they carry. Lots of great art supplies too. I will frequent them more often.
