And I noticed it was considerably bigger than my other 1/48 kits from Tamiya and other manufacturers. In fact I had to go back to the box several times after finishing the build to make sure it wasn’t a 1/32 scale. It’s a great kit and fantastically detailed. One of the best kits I’ve built to date, but the size is throwing me off. I want to have a Corsair in my collection but it just doesn’t look right next to my other 1/48 scale aircraft.
So, do the other Tamiya Corsair versions use the same mold? And is the actual Corsair really that much bigger than other planes of that era? I don’t have pictures at the moment but I can post them up to show the size difference when I get the chance. I would really like a Corsair that looks up to scale with the rest of my models.
I haven’t actually measured the airframe, but it seems about right. I did measure the engine, and that was pretty close.
An F4U-1a was 414.15" from the tip of the spinner to the end of the tail, which is about 8.63" at scale. The wingspan was 491.7 inches, or approx 10.24" at scale. Is yours around that size?
If you’ve ever seen a real Corsair up close, they’re massive. P-47 Thunderbolts, too. Compaired to a Corsair, a P-51 or, as you illustrated, a Bf-109 looks tiny.
