1/48 Revell P-39D

This is the Revellogram P-39 kit which has been around for ages and one I must confess have never built because…quite frankly I never liked the Airacobra (always looked like something the Italians would build). At any rate this is a P-39D-2, of 51st FG, North Africa 1943 in olive drab over neutral gray. The kit actually goes together quite well, I chose not to expose the engine or gun guts (didn’t think it adds a whole lot and needed the gun space for fishing weights to keep it from tail sitting). I goobered up the canopy (didn’t fit worth sour owl poop) and some of the decals silvered for unknown reason. This was my first kit using two products I’ve never used before, EZ Line and CA accelerator (a HUGE [Y] for both), comments always welcome.

That’s one beautiful Airacobra! Thank you for sharing this build.

I agree, it came outlooking pretty good. I always liked this aircraft, something about it having a car door and a nice size cannon I guess. I’ve never seen it in those markings.

The pilot’s in my Faather’s squadron never were comfortable with the P-39. They didn’t like the idea of the engine right behind their seat in case they had to belly in and come to a sudden stop.

Nice work, that came out really good.

Looks fantastic. I have one on the table that I have just started painting, which is from the 1970s boxings of this kit. Thinking of the glass fit issue, the fits seem to degrade the further along the molds are used, like the Accurate Miniatures F-4s made from the Monogram molds. I have both copies of the same kit, and the front windscreens are totally different, but are from the same molds.

Looks good!

Looks great. nice job

Thank you for your kind comments, on to another Revellogram classic!

She looks pretty darn good, I can’t see much wrong with her from the photos. [Y]

Not a huge fan of the P-39 either. I think yours looks great. Thanks for sharing.

Nicely done! That is a fun old kit to build. Not bad when you consider that the molds are over 40 years old now. If you ever do another, Squadron makes a vacuform canopy, and you can pick up some resin exhausts to really dress this kit up.
