1:48 Revell Hurricane MkIIc (maybe with a "twist"?)

Well hello again!

My next build is a model of one of my all time favourite aircraft: the Hawker Hurricane. I did not try this one earlier as i am quite frankly terrified of spraying a real camouflage pattern on a model…[:I]. I do hope i will be able to do it…

Every modeler and/ or aircraft enthousiast will ofcourse know the story behind this plane so i will refrain from any further info about it. Let’s just say that the spitfire always made the headlines and stole the show, but the aircraft that really got the job done during the BoB is this one[;)]

Opening the box made me raise my eyebrows at first glance. The number of parts and their detail are very promising indeed. If it all fits together correctly is something i will find out while building i guess[:)]

Some of you have made remarks about my fondness of russian WW2 aircraft, wich is well observed and correct. They are different from your run of the mill P51’s, spits and Messerschmitts and generally are attractive to me personally.

Being part of the lend lease program, the hurricane also saw action in the russian skies. With this in mind i am at this point still considering maybe “russifying” this model but i am still unsure… I do have leftover russian markings in 1:48 scale from my I-16 build and may decide to use them on this model once finished. Such a model would look a lot like this one i found while researching my build:

What do you peeps think: continue my russian streak or make this a decent RAF one?

Apart from that and to cut out the blah blah here are some pics to get underway:

Box… (the RAF one would look like that. The russian one much the same but with the roundels sprayed over and with stars on it):

Decals for the british aircraft:

The leftover russian markings… (there are also some red stars on yellow background, would look nice on the sides):

And to finish off i will show the parts needed for the pit. Without doubt the most detailed one i have done (or will do) sofar:

Hope you guys like my choice and also hope i could get some response on my idea about redecalling it afterwards.[:D]

Hey I recognize that kit! I just built it as the Hasegawa Sea Hurricane! It was a great build with some of the best OOB detail I have come across! Whatever you decide on it is a great choice! [tup]

Sfcmac, are you saying the revell kit is a reboxed Hasegawa? Already thought the sprues having letters on them was a bit odd as it is not often found on revell kits…

I would say yes. The 1/32 Me 109 K and Stuka as well are the same Hasegawa parts in a Revell box just as the Italeri 1/48 Avenger and SBD are the Accurate Minatures kits! Usually the Italeri ones sell for less and have more options if you can get them. Good things to know when your shopping for bargains. That looks exactly like the pit I built last week to me!

Hello everyone,

Ummm, i am afraid i have to announce that i have to abandon this build… Someone decided to sit down on my model under construction (…) and i am unfortunately unable to repair the damage…[:I][#dots]

Ofcourse i will continue on another build, just not this one. My apologies.

Richard

That is a shame kermit. I have a 1/48 Hasegawa Hurricane kit that I parted out a while ago and I still have alot of the parts in the stash box. To bad you are overseas as it would probally cost more to ship it there than a whole new kit would. When did Revell rebox the Hasegawa Hurricane? I was expecting it to be the old Hurricane that I build several of as a kid. I had 4 of the Hasegawa kits. I build one traded one and parted one out. Now I only have the desert ground attack version left. Really nice kits.

Shucks that’s no good. You know what I would do? I’d invest in a Pegasus snap kit 1/48 Hurricane. The outside detail is pretty good and perhaps things like the pit parts and wheel wells would really make it jump to the point of being hard to tell the diff really. I just hate giving up.

Sprue Bros has them in stock for $8.99 If you haven’t seen one they are very nice kits and hard to beat for the price. With the spares salvaged from the broken kit I bet it would sing!

Whoops didn’t read about the Netherlands part. Sorry but they may be available there as well?

Thanks for the support gents! Really kind. Yes sfcmac, i can get anything i want here (or just about). There are a handful of quite good online stores here, one of them even specialising in aviation and modeling. I can choose from a staggering amount of brands. The site is available in the english language as well:

Ofcourse you can understand i hope that as of the moment i was kinda p*ssed about all my work going down the toilet so i am looking for anything other than a hurri for my next build [:D].

As a matter of fact i have developed an interest for WW2 US navy aircraft and i am about to finish a nice Hobbycraft kit i was doing on the side…[;)] suspensefull tune here[:D]

Told you guys before the Hurricane is one of my favourite AC so i will undoubtedly pick up another one in future. Considering the Trumpeter 1:24 one as a “piece de résistance” in future.

Thanks again peeps!

I really like your Russkie Hurri, Kermit.

How does this kit compare to the Hasegawa one? Would like to build a Mk IIc with a chin radiator (Burma SEAC colours if I can find the decals) so perhaps I should just get the correct Hasegawa kit?

Yeah that is a great store. I only go there once or twice a year, else my bank account would not survive my shopping frenzy!

I you do want to make a soviet Hurricane, check this site for information:

Why not show a pic of the damage if you still have the kit. Generally alot of damage is repairable given time and persistence ( that is a must for any modeler worth any salt).
