The infamously ill fitting B-26 kit. Soft plastic and raised panel detail.I decided to sand off all the detail and re-scribe the entire thing. I have spent 4 months sanding, etching, filling, repeat! Nearly to the point of spraying the gloss black, then the Alclad aluminum base coat. Random photos over the past few months.
That is some very impressive work. You rescribed the entire model? Wow! That’s a lot of lines to keep straight lol.
I can’t wait to see how this looks with paint on it. Fantastic workmanship so far.
Nice! Are you drilling out the cooling holes in the guns? You are a true manly-man modeler. I was never able to get them to be evenly spaced.
I built that kit when it was new - the only major fit problem I encountered was where the scoops attached to the cowl.
I look forward to seeing this Monogram classic built!
Yup re-scribed the entire model! I can’t tell you how many times I scribed, screwed up, filled with CA, sand, re-scribe. The fit issues, is another issue! Actually I am not drilling out the holes on the machine guns. I am chopping off the kit barrels and replacing them with some Quik Boost resin jacketed barrels.
You re-scribed all of the pane lines. That was ambitious. I generally do not re-scribe those lines unless they are damaged. I certainly would not re-scribe the panel lines on a plane with over lapping panels, ie. B-25. But the B-26 Marauder was the first military aircraft to have butt panels. Your engraved panels are a more accurate representation of those panels. When you are dealing with over lapping panels it is a toss up between raised and scribed panel lines because neither are accurate, only representative.
That’s shine really beautiful work. I really like what you did to the engine.
She’s looking sharp!
Looking good! I admire your patience and skill.
Hi;
Oh Boy. I have that one in my stash. Is the fit really as bad as I have heard?
MLooks like you are beating that beast into submission, great job specially describing the entire model.
As an Alclad user, I highly suggest to make sure the finish is flawless otherwise every little scratch or puttied area will show up big time specially under the high shine colors. Gloss black enhances the high shine shades like chrome, polished aluminum and airframe aluminum. The other Alclad colors don’t require gloss black since they are not high shine ones and show a weathered oxidized look.
For sure on the bare metal finish showing every little flaw. Luckily the gloss black is showing those imperfections, and I am able to go back and fix before I spray the aluminum this week. Using 2000, and 3000 grit wet sanding, I am liking how smooth it is coming along.
Here are a few pics of the most poor fitting sections Tank-Builder.
On another note I have gotten on the Ammo by Mig Jimenez train, and man their products are very nice. I started playing around with the oilbrushers and streakers on the landing gear doors…
I like what you did to the gear parts. [Y]
Coming along. I used MM gloss black acrylic base w/ a little Future. Then sprayed Alclad 2 airframe aluminum, with some patches of regular aluminum. I still need to mask off and spray the invasion stripes on the rear of the fuselage. Then onto decals…
Getting close to done. Only been working on this one since November!
I know the feeling ALL too well about working on something for extended periods of time. This good sir…is looking very sharp.
Superb. Just superb, sir.
Oh gosh that looks fantastic!!!
The B-26 is my favorite US Second World War bomber. I have the same kit but have been too intimidated to start on her.
Don’t worry…

Now that this beauty is being built, some company will come along with a brand new kit of it.
… for $100. [:(]
Probably!
But Redman still has the braggin’ rights on converting a sow’s ear into a silk purse here!
