1/48 Monogram F-4C any good?

So I just bought a Monogram F-4C (new 2011 model) from Michaels for $15. Is this kit any good as far as build goes? Does it need excessive gap filling or anything? I have not started it yet as I still have to complete my 1/48 Academy F15k, 1/48 Academy F16, and trumpeter 1/32 F14D. I got alot on deck right now but I couldn’t pass up the F-4 for $15. Any help is appreciated.

Ah yes, the good old Mono kit. I built one for the first time as a young teenager back in the very early 80s, and still have a shoebox full of these kits (got to know it so well, I could identify parts on sight).

I recall reading the review of the kit in the very first book in the Detail and Scale series, and it was declared to be the most accurate F-4C/D in any scale (at the time).

Here’s a pretty good article of how the kit builds up:

Great article Ish. I appreciate it. Now just to get some pics from others here on the forum who have built it and im good to go.

In the history of this forum, there have been Group Builds on just about every subject under the sun (some more than once).

Good place to look for other builds on a particular subject and what others did. [:)]

PS> Got the Monogram F-4C/D, F-4J and the Hasegawa RF-4B sitting in the closet right now. I’m hoping to build an RF-4C of the 117th TRW based out of Birmingham, Alabama back in the 70s and 80s. They were loud when they came in from training.

If Hans Von Hammer was here, he would lay down the law on all of you. If it is Monogram it is an outstanding kit, no matter what anyone else says. Period!

I like the kit myself; it’s a good value at $15. Funny thing with the box art is that the guy who built the kit for the box art didn’t attach the auxiliary air intakes that are on the lower part of the nose by the nose cone. Then when they photoshopped it into the action scene on the box top, that omission just glares at you.
