1/48 Monogram F-14A

I didn’t want all of you to think I’d given up on my F-14 project. Here’s the next one up. Of course it’s the Monogram kit with various Steel Beach items to spice it up a bit. Decals were from Afterburner.

Looks great! VF-103, right?

Very nice F-14! That’s a beautiful finish.

Super nice, again. Wowzers !!

VF-103 are posers… usurpers… the only real Jolly Rogers Tomcats are VF-84! [;)]

Stikpusher is correct. It’s actually the REAL Jolly Rogers…VF-84. To be honest, even they aren’t the real Jolly Rogers. They used to be the Vagabonds. The real Jolly Rogers started life as VF-17 in WW II flying Corsairs. They were redesignated VF-5B, and then VF-61. They were disestablished, but I believe the CO was reassigned to VF-84, who were flying F-8 Crusaders at the time. He brought the traditions and name of the original Jolly Rogers over to VF-84, but they can’t claim lineage. The Crusaders never carried the skull and bones on their jets. That began with the F-4’s. That’s also why the Jolly Rogers have the stripes with the V’s in them. Those are the Vagabond stripes that were on the airplanes before VF-84 became the Jolly Rogers. In essence, they combined both sets of markings. That is your NavAir history lesson for the day. Class is dismissed.

Looks really sharp! Thanks for sharing!

Beautifully clean, sharp work. I see nothing negative about the build whatsoever. I wish I could say that about any of my builds.

Thanks for the history lesson! Another reason why I go to this site!

Oh and very nice job.

Thanks for the history lesson, I didn’t know all that. My favorite markings on my favorite airplane. Very nice build.

Last time I was with VF-103 aircrew the bones of Ensign Jack Ernie was in thier ready room (and so was “Mutha”). That gives them the right to wear the colors.

I guess the auto-nanny software on this site will not allow the name of the trophy that is a cheap Buhda statue in a wooden case that is awarded to the navy fighter squadron that has shown the most motivation with regards ro recreational activity.

Is it the short version of “mother”? [:D]

Yup!

Thats gorgeous…thanks for sharing…

Beautiful model!

And my favorite Tomcat squadron (check out my avatar)! Beautiful!

Nice VF-84 Tomcat.
