1/48 Monogram F-105

Yes, I know. It’s not Navy. I was asked to build this for a gentleman, and it was a very enjoyable build. Everything is OOB, including the decals. I will say that R/M has come a long way with their decals. They are much better than they used to be. The markings are for McConnell AFB here in Kansas. I really do have a soft spot for classic Monogram kits. I don’t know if nostalgia plays a part, but every time I build one, I enjoy the experience.

Very nice, as usual!

That is a super clean and very attractive build! I love the subtle pre/post shading that doesn’t take over the paint. That sir, is perfect.

Very beautiful work. Did the Post-war ANG use the centerline bomb rack for practice flights/training?

Very nice! It’s a shame the Collings Foundation wasn’t successful in getting a F-105 back into the air.

Is that the new T-Stick version? Looks terrific!

Thanks all! Yes, it’s the new T’stick version. I’m not sure if the molds have been permanently changed or not. In regards to the centerline MER, I’m not sure if the ANG used them or not. It wouldn’t surprise me if they loaded some “blue death” on them for practice.

Very nice! The old Monogram Thud is still a very nice kit.

My family lived near the approach end on one of the runways at McConnell in '67 & '68, and I’d sit in my back yard and watch the Thuds come and go. They had a very distinct engine sound when they’d fly over, and when they took off, you could hear the BOOM! when the afterburners lit off.

Sweet build Darren! Makes me sad I struck it off my list for now. …Maybe I’ll have to bring it back. =]

Beautiful build.[Y]

These old Monogram kits have some very nice molded details, specially in the cockpits and wheel wells. Their details are fantastic as found on any of the Monogram Century Series lineup. Great looking build.

Noice build, D. Pretty cool that a native (non-city) New Yoker build a NY built bird and put it in Kansas markings because he lives in Kansas.

Hello ?

What an amazing build, I love the camo you’ve done on this build.

Toshi

Gentlemen, an Air Force plane built by guru Darren Roberts is a fine testament to the power of money or friendship. It’s a really nice build! knox

Very cool, the camo looks terrific!

Great build of one of the best of the Monogram 1/48 kits! I agree with you they are very satisfying to put together, especially when you realize how much you save over the other brands.

How did you make the rings on the bombs?

I stole the ring decals from the Academy F-4 kit. I had to adjust them a bit and use two sets per bomb, but with enough Micro Sol, they snuggled down.

Beautiful, Darren.
