1/48 Monogram A-10 Thunderbolt II Complete

I have been working on this one for a while and finally hit the finish line. This is my first attempt at black basing. I was trying to give it a bit of sun fade with progressively lighter layering and used all model master enamel. This was a really nice kit and the only real trouble (other than myself) were the decals which were very leathery making the nose work tough. To be expected with these really old ones. Box art first for those of us into that:

Very nice! I miss seeing them in the lizard schemes…

That looks cool. Good job. I have the Tamiya kit to do. Any pics of the black basing?

John, sorry I don’t usually take any progress pics when I build for fun. There is a guy called doogs models on YT who has some extensive videos on the technique if you wanted to see it in action. This one was done with a sotar AB freehand with no taping. You dont realize how much there is to cover until you paint a 1/48 this way. I did take some pics of the pit prior to closing her up:

No worries. I have seen the doog videos. I’m just getting started with black basing so I’m looking for any and all examples. Pit looks good.

Nice take on a classic kit!

Thanks guys much appreciated!

Hi,

Your build looks really nice and I really like the Warthog nose art. [:P]

NOICE!!! I’ve always loved the A-10 in the Euro I scheme.

Nice job on a challenging kit. It was one of my first builds upon returning to the hobby and I almost quit again.

Great job on the A-10, have to agree with others, they do look better in that scheme. Its a shame we don;t still ahve them in the sky’saround here, they used to be a common sight.

Looks nice and black basing is a great technique to use.
