I have an IDEA 1/48 Stuka G-1 tank buster kit in my stash - does anyone know if this is just a repackaging of the Monogram Stuka kit, or if it is a completely separate kit?
I’m not familiar with the kit, but recall that in the mid-late 80’s, Idea was a Korean company which took other companies’ models and basically took casts of the sprues to make their own moulds.
The earliest ones (poor clones of Hasegawa’s early F-15E and Italeri’s F-18A/B) were quite hideous. Mis-shapen parts, sink marks and short shots everywhere, visible scratching/sanding marks on what were supposed to be smooth panels (like wings!!).
On the up-side, some of their later efforts weren’t too bad (at least in the box, which usually carried the original manufacturer’s box art).
I would be willing to bet though, that your kit is a clone and not a rebox.
It’s a very poorly done copy of the Monogram kit. The one I looked at was terrible you could barely see through the canopy.
Thanks for the feedback. I’ve had it since 1992 at the latest, and since I already have it there’s no sense in crying over spilt milk. I haven’t built a model for maybe 15 years and have been considering what kit I would try first - a sacrifice to the modeling gods so I can work on my filling and sanding and masking and airbrushing techniques, to name but a few.
I think I know what kit will be that sacrifice!
