1/48 Hobby Boss TBM-3 Avenger Torpedo Bomber

Hi everyone, this is my latest build-

There are options for 3 different schemes, I chose TBM-3 VT9(N)-90, USS ENTERPRISE (CV-6), March 1945

I once had the good fortune to see one of these up close, and they are a massive aircraft.

I decided I wanted to build it with one wing folded and one extended, there is plenty of interior work to be done in this kit but once together you don’t see a lot of it, but this applies to a lot of models.

Paints used-
Vallejo
Tamiya
Gunze metalizers
Italeri WW2 US NAVY Set for upper camo.

I really like the Italeri paints and now have added several of the sets to my paint collection.
For the black paint work I first used Tamiya rubber black, then picked out panel areas with Tamiya Nato black and sprayed some other areas with Lifecolor Dirty black.

I used Flory’s grey wash on the black and dark dirt for the camo.

I really enjoyed this build, and I am happy with how it turned out.
Thanks for looking.

Now that is a real beauty, Grant. Thanks for another fine post.

Great looking build! This kit looks like a scaled down version of Trumpeters 1/32 Avenger.

Outstanding work. It looks very convincing.

Just noticed that all the pictures did not download, hope these links work for the rest

Mmmm, Mmmm, mmm ! I hope mine’s near as good when finished.

So happy to see one of these again. I love those old Grumman lines!! Well done on the painting and weathering!! =] I think after any kind of sound construction…that’s the hallmark of a convincing build…it comes down to the what the surface look like. Nicely done!

Nice work on the Avenger. I am surprised that Hobby Boss doesn’t provide the plywood box for the Mark XIII torpedo fins and the plywood nose shroud which was used to correct some of the deficiencies of the Mark XIII.

OOooo! Now THAT’S purdy! Excellent work on the HB kit and I love the finish as well.
