But if you feel the need, you could also do a light cover-up job with some darkened green to help things along. You needn’t get total coverage either, just enough to tone it down. If you can get a decent demarcation line to begin with, masks or no, you can do a touch up as well. It’ll just be a bit more tedious masking the second time around…
Frank that color when compaired to the 75 looks to be pretty close to luftwaffe late war bright green (RLM 82). RLM 83 is dark green. From the pic on the decals sheet and what I remember I think this aircraft was actually painted 83? but I’m 100% sure on this. I understand you used tamiya paint but these are the colors MM got mixed up on. I’d say if you were going for the RLM 82 bright green your ok, but if you wanted 83 you need to get it darker. I’m not sure what your going for but I thought I throw that out there. Just a reminder that the top access cover just infront of the wind screen on this 109 is painted 76/78 lower fuselage color as it was a replacement. The camo looks excellent on the tail and wings. I’m at work right now but if you need help let me know and when I get home I can find out.
Thanks for your input everyone. I’m thinking now about a filter to darken it up a tad. Stan- You’re right, it does look more like 82. As for the replacement panel on the nose, I plan to mask and paint that along with the darker square under the Yellow “5”. The colors of those look similar to me, so I think that’s how I will do those. Thanks again guys for your input, much appreciated! [tup]
OK, I did some more paint work tonight, using an OD green shade to both darken the bright green and also to warm up the RLM 75. I think it looks much better now. [tup]
Frank, you’re really putting together a string of excellent builds here, and this one is certainly no exception. THe mottle is flawless. [bow] If you could bottle up some of your talent and send some my way, I’d be grateful!
[{(-_-)}]It’s not easy painting green, You blend in with so many other, ordinary things. Like frogs. Love Kermit! [C):-)] Not as much as that 109 though ! Very cool! Up to yer usual tricks I see! The secret is in the sticks. [alien]
Thanks guys! And Aaron- the secret IS in the sticks! [swg]
I masked off and painted the light grey replacement cowl panel, as well as the areas under the yellow “5”. It was tricky to mask over the canopy masking, as I had to get a good seal to prevent overspray but yet it had to come off easily so as not to disturb the window masks. Also did a few more touch ups to blend in some areas I missed last night. A day or two to dry and it’s time for a coat of Future. More to come! [:D]
I kinda figured Frank has sort of an Elves and shoemaker story theme to his builds as well Nam. [#toast]
Yes Frank I was looking at those profiles. The Operation Bodenplatte profiles in our Planes and piolts book are surely tempting. That Braun Violette RLM 81 is pretty cool. Saw you mentioning a K version on the elfs to do list? [alien]
