Well, as a youngster I played on a derelict airfield that my dad had actually helped to build before he went off to the war. Just recently I discovered that for almost the entire war it was the base for Halifax squadrons. So I thought a tribute was in order… I like to build in 1:48 and found i could only get a Halifax in that scale (as far as I know) as a vac formed kit from Fonderie or Sanger. As the Fonderie kit is a wallet busting price I went for the Sanger. Now, what you need to know is that I have never, ever, built a vac formed kit before! So here is my story!

so now to the first stage cutting out the fuselage…not so painful!
Then I began to add the inner struts and longerons
So far so good! I shall keep you posted as the build progresses!
The Fonderie kit is injection molded but is also a bear to build, certainly no easy 1:48 Halifaxes, looking forward to seeing the progress on this one. I have the Sanger Stirling but haven’t made it too far on that.
Have now completed the cockpit area. The kits flight engineers and flying instrument panels were hopeless so I raided my spares box. Also the wireless operators and the navigators stations had to be scratch built. You only get the pilots seat with the kit so again spares box raided! Have worked on the wheels and main landing gear ( which had a lot of flash to clean up) Getting the tyres into the landing gear was quite a struggle! Currently working on the inner engines and trying to work out how to create the u/c doors.
