I am new here and my question may seem very lame but here it is:
Today I got an Italeri F22 Raptor kit in 1/48. I could also buy Revell RVL04559 F22 in 1/48 but the guy in the shop told me they were basicly the same kit and there was no need to pay more for the Revell model. According to him some Revell models are just repacked Italeri sprues.
Revell and Italeri F22 kits in 1/48 are the only ones available. Are there any substantial differences between the two? Thanks for your help.
[#welcome] to the forum Majek !!!
Well, I have the Revell kit, still unbuild, and it looks nice to me. But it could use some cockpit detail, it’s very basic now…
My referneces show me that the Revell an Italeri ones are jsut the same.
I have build the 1/72 Revell F-22 before, and it seems thet the 1/48 one is just an upscaled kit of the 1/72 one, with only minor changes, such as some optional hatches…
I hope this helps…
Cheers,
Jürgen
Many thanks Flyingraptor. My kit looks quite well too. So it seems the guy in the shop was right that Revell has simply re-boxed Italeri kit. I am glad to know that. The price difference was minimal and I would rather have the better kit… But since they are the same… I have also read that it has been common for Revell to re-box many other kits.
Should be the exact same plastic.
They are the same. Both are pre production kits and do not come any where close to the production aircraft. A nice pre production model can be made but if you want one of the operational aircraft, a lot of modifying has to be done.
Thank you very much for your help.
berny13 → which parts have to be modified and to what extent ?
I have read that the model represents operational F22s quite well (recess lines and things like that). Anyway, they are the only models of F22 available in this scale.
Are there any better models of F22, for example in 1/72 ?
In general there are very few reviews of F22 kits in the Internet. There are no group builds… Nothing… It took me 3 hours just to find two simple reviews.
Do you know any reviews, forum threads and similar things connected with F22 models? Maybe I wasn’t looking thoroughly enough…
Majek,
You should try ARC, one of the bst sites to find info about modeling, expecially aircraft models.
Just click on gallery and then jets and you’ll find tons of models…
It’s a really good an helpful website, if I where you, I should put it in your favorites.

All right. Thanks again Flyingraptor.

I was talking with some F/A-22 pilots at the Tyndall AFB main exchange, who were looking at the kit after it arrived at the BX. I asked if it was accurate and they said it had the following problems.
Radome incorrect shape, ejection seat wrong type, incorrect instriment panel, engine exhaust nozzels incorrect shape, landing gear fair, but not accurate, location of antennas wrong.
I have built the Italiari one ,not bad apart from soddin decals for the cockpit!NO detailing, just decals!!And as the cockpit os fairly large, its a shame.Reinforce the panels with sheet stock ,(the gun panels that are opened up) The colour scheme looks wrong too.
