1/48 F-4J Phantom canopy needed

Hey!

New to the forum. Been looking for a good model airplane forum! Yeah I ordered a Revell Monogram F-4J Phantom on Ebay only to find out the canopy clear parts were missing. I was wondering if there was a place where I could buy the canopy for this kit without buying a whole new kit?

Jeremy

Good question. If you can’t find the part, take your question to the scratch builders forum.

Well, there’s two options. You could get a kit part by going to Revell’s website, or you can try to find an aftermarket canopy on a site like squadron.com. Aftermarket canopies are not for beginners, so if you’re new or you’re dusting off the skills, you might want to try the kit part. You’ll have to pay a little, but it’s worth it I think. Good luck!

Jermy, I think you have two options here…1) You can take Rad’s advice and see if Revell will send out a spare canopy, shipping cost will be $6.00 or…2) If you can find the Revell 1/48 F-4J Blue Angels kit the canopy assembly for that will fit the Monogram kit.

I am working on that exact kit at this time and you are going to have FITS with the fit. I also suggest you look into a different set of aftermarket decals for it, the kit decals are horrible and need to be drowned in decal setting solution to make them stick. I also suggest that IF you do build it up as VF-96 NG100 “Showtime 100” that you get the True Details F-4J wheel set as the wheels the kit supplied are Air Force versions and not those the Navy used. Also the the bombs the kits comes with are wrong, you need to get Mk-20 Rockeye CBU for the TERs on the wing plyons, do not add the wing tanks since that plane did not carry them for its mission when it achieved ACE status. I also recommend you get the Hasegawa Weapons Set C as it will have the correct missiles that this plane used.

We really went in depth on this kits problems and how to solve them and this should help you big time if you decide to build it as the Showtime 100 Mig Killer.

Good Luck!

this f-4j is a discontinued model so thats why i bought it on ebay. i doubt if revell has any “spare canopys laying around” i think im just gonna buy a whole new kit like the f-4j blue angles you said.

I am almost finished with my Monogram F-4J and will post pictures in a few days and you can see how it turned out. I used a Legend F-4J resin cockpit set that really messed me up when it came time to add the canopy. I was kind of where your at. Thankfully a good friend and member of these forums had a spare and sent it to me.

well i just bought another 1/48 f-4j kit for $14.

For Sale!
