I used a resin conversion set. Most of decals are from spare box. If I did this over, I would use Hobby Boss F-111A. Very few F-111Bs were made. The Navy decided not to use these. Shawn Bemo
Another great job like your Corsair II! Nice stash and an excellent set of reference material.

Very nice work! Always love seeing stuff like this that could have been but wasn’t.
Very nice! A lot of extra details with the wings swept open. Now I need to see if there are any pictures or videos of this on a carrier. I know the Navy thought about using them. Looks like time to refresh my memory.

IIRC Revell did a 1/72 F-111B way back in the stone age. The TFX (F-111) project and the F-4 Fanthom were Robert MacNamerra’s (sp) “one size fits all Military services” idea.
The Navy found the F-111 to be to big and to heavy for carrier operations, as well as to complex. The F-111 has had a great service record with the USAF and other air forces.
Like any cutting edge project, e.g. swing wing, ground following radar, capsule ejection, etc. the TFX (F-111) had its problems, as had other great aircraft.
Very nice conversion work
Nice project. I was looking into doing this conversion but couldn’t find the set. Which set did you use?
Nice to see the 111 getting some love. I miss the old gal from my days in the AF. The 111 is an under appreciated bird. Nice work on an obscure subject like the -B model.

I can’t remember who made the conversion set. I bought about 6 years ago. It did come with decals, including Phoenix missile test birds. Shawn Bemo (THANKS FOR COMMENTS)
Pete’s Hanger was manufacturer of conversion set. I’m not sure if this is still available. Shawn Bemo
Thats really nice and good to see a differant take on the 111.
Nice build! I love F-111’s. I may be wrong but I think the F-14 was basically designed off the F-111. Same huge size (basically a platform for Phoenix missiles) but a tad lighter (I think they both had the same engine - at least initially - P&W TF-30s if memory serves). The A’s made a nice replacement for F-105s. I think the Aussies flew them until just a few years ago.
All, The F14 was developed from the same requirement that drove the F111B, and they used the same engines in the A model as the F111. However, the F14’s inlet was better designed for a fighter airvraft, and performed better than the inlet on the F111, which finally did ok by the F111F model. Interestingly, the side-by-side seating happened in part due to the length restrictions on a carrier. As a strike aircraft, the F111 was ahead of its time, and the terrain following system and navigation system was astounding, especially for its day, with no GPS, etc to help out.

The F-111B was an interceptor performing other fighter task such as dog fighting wouldhave been difficult. The F-111B was designed to fire a version of the AIM-47 (later AIM-54) using fire control system that would evolve in to the AWG-9.
Nice!..
Wow! that is really cool. You did an excellent job on the conversion as well as the overall build. I like it.
