This one caught my attention and jumped right to the top of my build queue when Eduard released this kit earlier this month.

I’ve had this subject on my list for a while. I’ve seen this rendered with a red cowl and red numbers several times, but Eduard states that the markings were blue. So I’m going with it. It’s a cool scheme.

The office is complete. I expect to build this completely OOB and will use Mr. Color paints for the most part.

Your gonna love that Eduard 190. Only issue I found on both of mine was the windscreen was a bit too narrow for the fuselage. Nothing major. Looking great Hoss.
I’m sitting watching this with the popcorn in hand
Thanks LD. I’ll look for the windscreen fit issue. These are a real pleasure to build.
I’ve been traveling for a couple of weeks so the progress has been slow, but I’ve had a productive few days now.
The build was completed with no major issues. I found some Quickboost MG 131s in my extras box and used them instead of the kit MGs. I did notice the windscreen issue that LD mentioned but it was minor. Primed with Mr. Finishing Surfacer.

I painted the yellow band, “V” and the undercowl and masked them off before painting the blue cowl ring and masking it.

RLM 76 for the underside and fuselage was next.

RLM 75 and 74 were next on the top surfaces, followed by an appropriate amount of mottling.

I spent quite a bit of time thinking about how to paint the winter white camo, in particular the sequence relative to the markings and decals. I decided the mask and paint the red wing walks and trim tabs since these would be visible under the camo scheme. I also masked the areas for the top wing crosses and the tail markings.

Then it was time for the white camo, using the photos and the Eduard profile as guides. As luck would have it, I had an extra Montex mask set for a Fw190D-9. After masking and painting the main markings, I added a bit of strategically placed white camo to integrate the scheme.

Gloss coat, decals and weathering are next. Thanks for looking.
Tres weird seeing this with a blue nose after all these years, but you’re doing absolutely gorgeous work! Superb job on the macaroni camouflage. Looking forward to seeing her all togged out.
Cheers
Nice Hoss. You’re making good time on this one!
That blue nose really makes thus scheme pop
Excellent. Nice to know I wasn’t crazy regarding the windscreen issue.
That 190 is looking VERY sharp…and deadly. Makes me wonder how it’d look with red/blue checkerboard around the cowl instead of a solid color
Thanks Greg. I know the blue nose is a big departure from tradition…
Thanks LD. I’m making slow progress.
The winter Wurger is now complete. Since the last update, decals were applied along with weathering and final attachment of all the various doodads.
I went over the edges of the decals and markings with white to reflect the temporary camo. The final finish was Model Master flat clear lacquer. I’m happy how the scheme turned out.

The AB 250 bomb was from the kit and I mixed my own version of “khaki green” and heavily weathered it. The DF loop antenna was from a detail kit for Eduards Fw 190D-11/13 kit.

I used black, brown and gray for the exhaust pattern along with some black and brown pastels. I also used brake lines from the D-11/13 detail kit.

Stretched sprue was used for the antenna because it lays naturally when slack with the open cockpit.

Chipping, scratches and general wear were applied with various colored pencils and the standard Tamiya black/brown mix.

I also used a Flory wash of various colors for the panel lines but avoided highlighting all the rivets to keep the weathering subtle over the white camo.

The wheels are resin upgrades from Eduard.

I used some restraint on covering the markings with white paint with the goal of keeping the model looking sharp while conveying the temporary paint. The photos show a much sloppier application of white around the markings and wanted the model to look less sloppy. It’s the same story with invasion stripes.

Enjoy the rest of the photos and thanks for looking.
