Eduard’s new limited edition Kampfstift Do 17Z is the next project. It’s ICM plastic with the usual Eduard Profipack goodies - PE, decals, resin wheels, etc. I had a Luftwaffe bomber on my list at some point and this is a nice kit.
The chosen subject is WNr. 2555, which was shot down on September 15, 1940 by Spitfires from No 609 Squadron. The pilot of the Dornier belly landed at Shoreham and the crew, except for the fatally wounded observer, was taken prisoner.
The office is now complete and the PE really gives it some pop.
Finishing the build now and getting ready for paint.
No major issues with the build. I learned that some components for the cowl/engine supports are represented incorrectly and scratch built some updated supports. I’ll get some photos in a future update.
One comment on the molding on this kit is that the panel lines are inconsistent in depth and width in various locations. I spent quite a bit of time filling and rescribing panel lines to make them more consistent in key spots.
A big plus on this kit is that the trailing edges, covers and exposed panel edges are really thin and look great.
Primed with Mr. Surfacer Finishing.
Mr. Color RLM 65 went down with no problem with some fading and shading on panels and fabric covered control surfaces.
RLM 71 was next.
Followed by more masking and RLM 70.
The Mr. Color tones are excellent and result in perfect contrast IMHO.
That’s it for now. I’m painting a few markings and then it’s time for gloss coat and decals. Thanks for following along.
Beauty work Hoss. Nice to see the 17 get some love. I have the original ICM release in the stash. I may need to break that out soon. So you have to scratch build those supports inside the cowls? Thats good to know. Shouldn’t be too tough to do.
