1/48 Decals for VF-96 F-4J Phantom "Showtime 106"?

Hi All,

Hope everyone is well…

Does anyone know if any aftermarket decals in 1/48 have been released for the above Phantom flown by Matt Connelly with his RIO Tom Blonski?

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Mark

Hi All,

Any Phantom fans who could help out?

Cheers,

Mark

Seems like Showtime 100 has taken all the limelight from that fight, although several other Phantoms that day sure could use documenting as well. Your best bet would be to take some Showtime 100 markings, and then modify them with generic markings for Modex NG 106 and Bu. No. 155769.

Showtime 106 is parked immediately aft of the two RA-5Cs. May 9, 1972.

Thanks very much for your reply and photo.

I was thinking the same as you in modifying Showtime 100 decals, but thought I’d pose the question before taking the plunge. One question though. How would I be able to replicate the names on the side of the cockpit to Connelly & Blonski?

You may want to look in to some small railroad dry transfer type stuff for that… individual letters to spell it out. Tiny tedious work but it is the best way I can think of.

Before you do that, I think you first must verify that those were the names that actually were carried on 106. It was not uncommon for crews to fly jets other than that with their names on; a crew to fly their “own” jet was pretty rare from what I have seen. So, anyone know what names should be on 106? For that matter, what names should be on Showtime 111, too (Shoemaker/Crenshaw MiG killer)?

Good point. Showtime 100 did not carry Cunningham and Driscoll’s names on it.

Well, it’s only taken the best part of nearly 15 years but finally!

You have pics of VF-33 and VF-102 from the USS AMERICA. I served with 33 when they were flying the tomcats from 1984 to 1986. It’s weird to see them now.
