1:48 B-1B Applying Decals!

With all that filling and sanding, what are you going to use to rescribe the panel lines? I’m intrested in a small tut on you’re resin casts.

The cans really do look good.

Amazing

Hi,

Your model is looking really good. It seems like lately for the models that I am working on I spend more time sanding and puttying, than anything else. It looks like you have done a really good jod of retaining alot of the surface detail on your model though, even with all the sanding and puttying you have done.

Pat

Wow! I just got caught up from being out of town for a few days and this is really impressive. I’m loving everything so far.

Thank you for your comment

A lot of the panel lines are pretty straight forward and will be easily replaced with a straight edge. But for some spots (the nose inparticular) I took pictures of the panel lines so i could have a reference. But if i run into anytring i dont have pictures of and cant remember what they looked like i can just refer to one of my other 2 kits that i have in the stash lol

I really want to acquire one of these. I did not reaiize it was quite so big, but that makes me want one even more!

I’m surprised Boeing wouldn’t have a museum near an airfield. Would have been cool to see one rolling down the freeway. BTW, there is a B-1 and a B-2 at the Air Force museum in Dayton Ohio for those who might want to check it out

Thank you for your reply

This is the first one ive built that has required a lot of sanding and filling but also this is the first one ive built that ive been trying to get exactly like it is in service. And as far as keeping surface detail all the panel lines are just canyons so its not hard to keep the surface detail which im very greatful for.

Thank you for your comment

It is quite the beast to have in the stash but its definatley worth every penny

And speaking of Dayton I will actually be going there in about 2 weeks for the 75th Aniversary of the Doolittle Raiders and also to see the museum for the first time.

It is on Boeing Field, but they also have and area across the street with the Space Shuttle area, Kennedy’s Air force one, the SST, 727 and a few others. I was there a few years back but didn’t see a Bone.
Great museum though.

I got to see the Belle when she was at Boeing Field back in the 90’s before they started filming the movie about her.

She was showing her age back then but it was a monumental moment for me. I miss living in West Seattle back then. These days I wouldn’t do it for a cool mil.

The Blue Angels used to fly over my house every year during Seafair. Good times!

Wow, that is a lot of work! Watching your build almost makes me want to start the 1/72 scale that I have in my stash. I’m pretty sure I need to get decals for it first though, and figure out where I would put it! I would of loved to have the 1/48 scale, but my rule of thumb is that I can’t have anything bigger than my 1/48 scale C-130 since it’s my all time favorite plane. Can’t wait to see it finished!

Man, seeing you fill, sand and do it again, maybe I will get going again on my F-15C build. This is a beast! Keep going!

Kevin

I still need to get a 1/72 B-1B for me to build and get all the new Barracuda Cast resin upgrades for it. And i can understand what you mean about not wanting something bigger than your favorite. Thats why i have this. Nothing will be bigger unless i invest in one of the big 1:32 Resin Kits haha. Thanks so much for your comment.

-Tyler

It definately is Kevin. Do you have any pictures of the F-15 your working on? Would be interested in seeing it.

Also when you were on T-38s were you at Sheppard AFB? Bet nothing has changed haha

Thank you for your comment

-Tyler

I worked T-38s back at Williams AFB, Chandler AZ from 83-87. Sorry no pics of the kit I’m building but might have a few of the 38 I crewed from back in the day.

Kevin

I was there last summer. It took 3 full days to walk through. Prepare to be amazed

Sand, fill, repeat; sand fill, repeat. That just about describes this kit. Until you start painting. If I were to do the 1/48 Bone again, I’d get gunship gray in a rattle can. I used about 4 bottles of MM enamel on this with the air brush and that was pushing it…

Things look to be coming along nicely. Have fun with the final assembly and finishing.

As an aside, I purchased the metal landing gear and found that they had so much flash and mold lines, that it was faster and easier to use the kit parts. I guess that you did not encounter anything similar.

Im actually using a bottle of paint that is actually used for the B-1. That way i know i have an exact color match haha. I should have enough. Im hoping to have primer on soon.

And as far as flash on the landing gear i dont recall having a lot. I know there was some but i took care of it pretty early on. I know i definatley wanted to use the metal landing gear instead of the kit parts so they wouldnt warp from all the weight.

Thank you for your comment.

I’m late to this party due to illness. But everything looks just fantastic! Can’t wait for the final review. I’ll be following.

Fill, sand, fill, sand, fill, sand–I’m having that issue with my F-104 so I know how that goes.
