1/48 AMT TIE Bomber

I got this beauty in Yesterday from CultTvMan’s hobby shop. Had this sucker on pre-order for a while and now it’s here. I’ll be getting started on this after I finish the 1/144 Revell Type IX c/40 U-Boat that I’m working on.

Definitely on my ‘To-Do’ list as well!

It’s going to be painted the same as the two TIE Fighters I did with the ESB/RoTJ blue gray.

It’s a beautiful kit. Our reviewer is finishing it up and has high praise for it. I thought it looked terrific in the box.

Skip to the 2:38 mark for our look inside.

Did you know that the filming miniatures twin pods are made from the 1/96 scale Revell Saturn V model kit.

And the “wings” were taken from the MPC Darth Vader TIE, including the incorrect box end caps. ILM added perimeter extensions to the wings to make them slightly larger. I wonder if they also used the canopy frame from the MPC kit?

That old DV TIE was the first Star Wars kit I bought, from Pete’s Modelcraft in Kahala Mall - a long time ago, in a childhood far, far away…

I built that one earlier this year. Original 1989 reboxing of the 1977 kit that I got a garage sale which had the “Poopin” vader figure.

Ha ha! YES, I remember the poopin’ Vader figure! When I was building the kit, I just thought “Ah, paint him black and no one will notice!”

Didn’t the recently reissued kit feature a better figure and some other small detail improvements?

Yeah but I don’t have that kit. I had two 1989 kits with one finished. The other one still is mint.
