Thanks Mike, I’m glad to see you are still lurking. I hope your doing well.
I finished this one up last night. To recap, It’s in the markings of a Hurricane flown by Ken Mackenzie of 501 Squadron in October of 1940. He downed 7 aircraft during the Battle of Britain to include a 109 by ramming. Here I have replicated SX-D after the starboard wing tip had been replaced after the successful ramming of the 109 on October 7th 1940. Note the fresh green paint. In reality, the aircraft may have been damaged beyond repair and scraped, but it may have been repaired too. I’m going for the latter which is a more interesting scenario.
I’m pleased with how it turned out. This is definitely the best Hurricane in this scale, way better than the Hasegawa version. The only improvements were Eduard Brassin resin wheels and Eduard PE seatbelts. I drilled out the exhausts and added brake lines. All main markings were painted on using Montex masks.
That turned out great - as usual! I like the repair scenario - looks believable. What a story. Thanks for the Airfix kit tip - an Airfix Hurricane is now on my wish list.
I’m really impressed by the level of detail these new Airfix kits have. You nailed this one down from the pit to the colors/weathering and display base, the finished product looks amazing. Great job dog!
