1/48 Airfix English Electric Canberra B.20 - RAAF Amberley 1968

No.1 (Bomber) Operational Conversion Unit, Royal Australian Air Force, Amberley, Queensland, Australia 1968.

This aircraft (205), crashed and the crew were killed 23/03/1970

I have mixed feelings of this kit, I love the Canberra, even more so in a RAAF livery, but this Airfix kit is a real pig, several short shots/mis-molds in the kit, resulting in a replacement stabilizer being sent from Airfix to replace one that was literally only half molded. The fit is not the greatest either, having troubles with the wing fit due to a problem with the bomb bay fit.

I used AK Xtreme Aluminium and Tamiya acrylic gloss white for the scheme. The weathering is something I have wanted to try for along time, using a piece of paper along the panel lines and spraying tamiya smoke with a touch of black mixed in back along the airflow. I think I over did it, but pretty happy with the final build. Also used Flory dark dirt wash, and used AK satin varnish to knock back the sheen.

Amazingly, there is 140grams of lead up front, and it is still a tail sitter!

Beautiful finish on the Canberra. I love the weathering you did!

Toshi

That is great. I like the look of the weathering

A dandy fine 'Berra, Grant. Excellent finish, looks are totally realistic and believable. Should be able to fire up and fly away. Thanks for the post.

Patrick
